need help picking out a mountain bike

Well things have changed and im looking at getting a new mountain bike and i need some recommendations from you guys that know a thing or two about this. My budget is around 400-500 and i was looking for a good quality bike with as many bells and whistles as possible. Maybe dual suspension and if possible disc brakes. dont know if my budget allows this. what are some ideas and web sites. ive looked at GT, K2, Mongoose and a few others. But i cant make up my mind, any help would be appreciated.
