Base Lines

Hello,

Ive been successful in making songs with melodies, etc.

My current frustration is trying to make base lines with software. I cannot afford to purchase hardware.

I can find a base sample and play notes... but thats not what I really need. Im not even sure if "base line" is the correct term. But I hear these long morphing threads of base in some songs, that it what I am trying to create. However I do not know where to start in this area.

I am using Fruity Loops Studio 4.1, I also have Logic.

If there exists some tools for FL please let me know, or can you point me to a tutorial or some other software?

many thanks!!

Hmmm not sure what exactly your question is.

First what style you produce?

Second for Bass LINES there is a big topic about it

For me Bassline is the patterns of the bass, and bass is just the sound/synth

Making Bass with software isn't hard, you can do it with fruity or logic.

Usually i use 1 osc saw form, put filter on 30(scale 127), delay 4/3 steps (4 panned right. 3 panned left) no reverb, good EQing and if needed distortion. thats my bass sound.

For Bassline, it can be very annoying to create a good one, i know Sean tyas taught me just to start with an 4 note offbeat bassline.

After i chop and move a bit till i get something driving or fitting the beat.

There are also producers that use 2/3 basslines..with deep subbass, highend bass etc..I usually do 2 basslines max, don't like to use more .

check out Refx's Claw its free from thier site and might also try checking out audiorealism's BassLine. they are vstis you can use now if i get what your saying your going to want to automate three varibles env/res/cutoff to make the bassline morph. your going to want to automate all them of them moving at once in differnt directions and such to make the morph sound. if i get what your asking if not im sorry.

if you're using FL Studio, just insert a new sampler channel and load a bass sample into it. if it's a drawn out synth that tends to mash with the next note, change it's properties to 'cut itself' and then switch the channel into 'piano roll'. the rest should be fair self explanitory.
