making music

what is your biggest problem when it comes to making music.

mine is that i'm not good at song structure therefore I have thousands of unfinished tracks sitting on my PC.

i think the hardest part for me would be getting used to the software. im sure that if i took the time to become accustomed to it, i would be able to use it easily. however.. i dont. so.. i cant.

well, i think making music is a lot like writing. most authors are rarely satisfied with what they create, and its once you become satisfied, once you become complacent that you should start worrying that your skills are declining.

ie, i imagine Oakie is very satisfied with himself right now.

your all not gonna believe this but ive been using fruity loops for 3 years and not been satisfied with the drum beats.
This is mainly because of the fact that fruity loops provides you with the shittiest samples you've ever seen.

so anyway, after about one and a half years of using it I decided to make it easier on myself so I downloaded the fruity loops retail sound packs.

these packs contain lots and lots of drums.

I like to add FX to kicks, hihats and snares and all that because I was always paranoid that if I released an album there was the possibility that someone would say "hey! I recognize those samples!"

I know, I know, its not really anything to worry about but thats just me

so anyway, after these three years I recently got a job at a secondary college and I was talking to the music teacher there about how I am no good with drum beats because I have nothing to work with.

I was told him the reason why I dont want to use drum loops and I told him the reason why I dont like to use samples is because everybody uses free samples and people are always likely to recognize them.

I also told him how i want to buy some proper electric drums... you know, the very expensive $10,000 ones

and he said "nah nah, just use the acid samples"

So I finally gave in and I extracted lots of different kicks snares and hi-hats from acid loops.

....and SHIT!!!!!

last night I used thos samples and made the most fuckin' awesome break you've ever heard!!!!

ohhhh i'm so happy

hmmm..... now for the hard part....

....making an original tune

Don't worry about the sampling, I recognize tons of samples in all sorts of tracks taken from sample cds I have. Sampling is everywhere, and has been ever since Hip Hop took off.
