Do you need to use anything other than pitch bend?

Hey everyone,
I've been DJing for like 2 months or so now, and I'm getting better. I've started being able to get 2 diff. tunes mixed and so I'm quite happy. My question is, I only use pitch bend, don't usually touch the platter or the spindle, does anyone else do this? I can't think of a situation where I should be able to beatmatch and NOT use the sliders. Is manipulating the platter necessary if you can already match using pitch bends? I think no...thoughts anyone?

Thanks!

unless you're using a set of decks without a pitch control, I see no reason why you couldn't play a good set entirely with the slider

If there was a "proper" or advanced way to beatmatch, pitch bending is it. If I am reading your post right you say that you sync up the records continuously using the pitch slide instead of fingers. That is a good habit if you want better sounding beatmatches. By using the pitch bend method, slowing down or speeding up the record when both channels open will be less noticeable than the more abrupt changes that are brought about by touching vinyl or platter.

well when i play house music (which is quite often) i pitch and adjust only with the pitch slider. if its a very very minor correction i may touch the platter every now and then, but its done in such a way that is not noticeable

For other styles i use other techniques in conjunction with the above

for house i wouldnt have thought youd need to use the pitcher, as house is slower and each beat/hi hat/snare or whatever last just the few micro milliseconds longer, so you can afford to be that tiny little bit out of time, also it is less noticable if your fiddlingwith the platter.
id have thought it would be better for mixing trance, cos as im sure you all know when it come to tweaking just that little bit and theres a melody brewing up in the track mixing in, you can spot it a mile off, so i would have thought the pitcher would be better suited for this. but i personally just piss around with the platter and adjust pitcher accordingly

not true, house music has harmonic elements that sound equally as gash as when one pitch bends a trance melody
