i'm planning to get some cdjs just like some people here only for the purpose of playing purchased cds and the digital downloaded mp3s.

i'm not too proactive about playing mp3s out let alone playing them for myself on cdjs but it seems like its the only choice since i cant find other shops that stock cdr promos other than hooj choons.

i just want to know what are the quality of these mp3s... like would you be able to tell the difference between them and vinyl??

www.beatport.com and www.bedrock.uk.net have some downloads. beatport offers high quality MP3s, MP4s and they also will ship a CDR to you with .wav files of the tracks if you choose. The MP3 quality on the site is good, but not as good as .wav files or vinyl of course. The up side is MP3s are cheap, and they are also very up to date. The site is adding new lables all the time, and it seems like this is really getting bigger very day.

I actually use beatport quite a bit and I love it. Their site is easy to use, and the number of tracks is growing quickly. You can search for something you like, browse by genre, or just check the top downloads. Sign up is free but be careful, you can enable something so if you click buy on a track it charges it directly instead of just placing it in your basket. I've gone on some download binges like that . . .

I'm assuming that the downloaded mp3's you'll be using will also be paid for, right? And the CD's you're buying will be licensed for public performance?

yes. i never liked playing mp3s. but seeing that places such as beatport are popping up everywhere, that seems the only alternative. i already looked into hooj but its being a dick and wont let me check out some cdrs i wanna get.

It's going to be veeeeeerrry interesting watching what happens over the coming months/years with the digital download concept.

From the perspective of a DJ that has to pay $16-$17CND/track, if I could legally download high quality digital tracks for use with a CDJ for $2-$4 a pop, I would be pretty happy. That said, I have yet to see any of the local electronic music clubs sporting CDJs...

I'd be much more open to legal downloads if the quality wasn't so shitty to begin with. I mean you can't play even a 192 kb/s MP3 in a club. So I guess these sites will have to start offering 320 kb/s MP3s or maybe even WAVs or AIFFs to satisfy the club DJs that give a fuck about their sound...

You know I love beatport, but I've also found (but haven't used yet) the following:
http://digitaldeejay.com
http://www.nufonix.com
http://www.edmdigital.com
http://www.trax2burn.com

I've only used beatport so far. Also, a number of labels allow direct downloads

And you've played out at a club spinning MP3's and notice this difference, or simply guessing and reading what everyone else "thinks"?

Eventually everyone will get on the uncompressed download bandwagon (or at least loseless format download). At that point, I will start purchasing a lot of tunes.
