Heineken Thirst Shownight
Exhibition Bochum
Since my last Tiësto gig in London at the 21st of may it was more than a month ago that I saw Tiësto play live. So my friend Jur and me decided to go to the Thirst Shownight in Bochum (Germany), only a 1,5 hours drive from my home. Driven off at about 21:00 pm hours and already a bit thirsty (guess it had something to do with the event we’re going to) we arrived in Bochum at 22:20 pm. On the German expressway you can really get the max out off your car ; )
Heineken hosting the night, so the walls of the club were in green light. A pretty awesome look I must say. At the door we gave up our names for guestlist and so we had a fast and free entrance. Entering the club we already noticed that this was a nice club. The hallway devided in two, at one site three cashpoints and at the other side the warderobe, nicely seperated from the que at the cashpoints. After collecting our drinkcard we enterd the great ooking chill area whit a lot places to sit and where already some nive groovy tunes pleased my ears. Due the first look around there I already noticed some femiliar faces. It was our German fiend Mike with his girlfriend sitting on the bar already enjoying some breezah! Right away we ordered some drinks (we were thirsty) and I noticed that the Heineken crew was taping off the Becks sings on the fridges It was all Heineken today : )
Chatting with Mike and his girlfriend some time we all decided to go into the mainroom. At the moment the Found @ Thirst winner from the day before, DJ George was spinning the decks. Some really nice progressive tunes sounded through the main hall. One thing couldn’t be missed… the visuals on four huge screens and five smaller ones above the dj booth. Two of the huge screens showed video’s from the Thirst Tour around the world. The five smaller ones showed some very nice shots from the dj booth which was filled with camera’s. One word: Great!! Standing there on the danceflooring dancing my ass off I again noticed some femiliar faces. Ciska, Merel and Georgianne also had found their way to the club so at least five dutch diehard fans were in the house to get a glimp of our favorite dj!
Around midnight the first Thirst resident came on… Miss Motif. A nice looking blond who spinned also some really nice tunes, Innercity 2000 Paul van Dyk flashback with “Futureshock - Spark“. Ok she missed the bass sometimes during mixing but she made that up with a live performance by her self by singing a song during her set although the songtext at one time only sounded like lalalalalla la la lalalla la. So it was easy to sing along. She seemed to appriciated that Well time was running fast so we didn’t noticed it was already 02:00 am and Tiësto himself hit the decks. Right away some Germans stormed the dj booth with their camera’s and flyers wanted to be signed. There was a security guy in front but he had a really weird job. Instead protecting Tiësto from screaming girls and almost in the dj booth jumping blokes he was there to protect the light tube at the dj booth. It seemed a very fragile piece of equipment so several times a mechanic had to come to fix the tube. Strange people those Germans… Light are really a Dutch thing so I gave them the phonenumber of huge company in Eindhoven for some advise ; )
The first storm gone there was enough room for us to dance. I almost had two sqaure meters in front of the dj booth just for myself. I call that very luxery compared to Holland. Tiësto spinning some nice even trancy tunes enjoying himself behind the decks and of course drinking Heineken. Having a great time there and laughing off our ass it even got better. We were invited to get behind the booth into a special vip area where we stand besides the other residents and some promotors. Also the girls were invited so the five off us could enjoy it even better in there. Thanks Tijs & Dimitri! Still dancing our asses off and joking around, making pictures and enjoying the free drinks time flyed and Tijs was at the end of his set. Afterwards we had some time to chat, catching up some things, was again a long time we spoke. Tiësto leaving the club while Smokin Jo had taken over. Highlight in her set and our last tune of the night was the skylark remix from Tears from Fears’s “Shout”. Awesome tune!!! Getting out of the club the Exhibition still ooked green : D
Driving back home with the sun coming up in my mirror we could only say a great night in a great club. After visiting Club 3001 and the Union Halle and now Exhibition I must say: “Great job Germany”! And the Germans themselves… Not being a fan of them last 22nd of june but they were a great crowd last saturday!
Ich komme zurück!!
Cheers,
Edwin
