Wanna hook my decks up to my comp?

Im after setting my decks up to my comp and recording onto it so i can burn some cds and generally have a better sound quality to listen to to some of my mixes.

Just wondering what kinda cables i need? what people recommend and what kind of software would i need to record my music?

you just need a 2phono to minijack cable, a line in on your comp sound card, and i use alive mp3 recorder, but its not very good

erm not quite..

That would work if your soundcard has an RIAA preamp built in- but it wont have. If you do it without it, you will get sod all level and no bass.

Regardless if its one turntable or two you are recording, you need to go through the RIAA preamp- your mixer has one built in, so just take the output from your mixer into the line in using an appropriate cable.

Make sure your gain structure is good to get the best signal/noise ratio possible in the signal path. Record it as a wav initially if you have the disk space

I use Sound Forge 7. Don't think it really matters what you use (too much).

I'm planning on recording a set TOMORROW, my foray using an MD player today did not work out quite right cos i can't transfer it onto computer.

Are those mp3 or wav recording programs available free, legally on the net? If not are there any suggestions?

not sure regarding other progs, you can only get a trial version of cool edit pro 2 for free and then do naughty things to it...

have you looked into those mp3 jukebox things? you can get them with line in nowadays, so you can record like 6gb of music in one go.

i use a cable: on one side RCA connectors (the same ones you use to connect your deck) and on the other side a phono connector (the same as normal headphones!).

You plug the RCA side to your mixer and the other to the LINE IN on the computer. Then you check the LINE IN volumes on the computer so they are not too high because then will get a distorted sound.

The software i use is MusicMatch Juxebox, I just set it to record from the system mixer.

try this, if you still canŽt make it send me a PM, iŽll gladly help out.
