Stay away from math electives at Mac. Mac's math courses are harder than other courses relative to other universities, and unless you're already in a math intensive program [science or engineering] I really would stay away from it. Secondly, the course description may be saying that the course will cover stuff you've already learned, but there's a hell of a difference between the difficulty of problems done in high school and that of university. If you've got a choice stay out of it.

it sounds like you're talking about a 1st year calculus course. It should be mostly review, but if you're choosing the advanced calc for engineers and math students, get ready to get your ass kicked. nothing is easy at a school like mac, and doing good in grade 12 math wont mean you'll do good in university, you're gonna have to work much harder to get the same marks... you'll see what i mean, its not that bad, but you'll have to get used to it... it will seem like a joke at first, but trust me... you will be complaining by the end of the year.

What he'd be taking is the science 1st year first term calc course. And math's are the toughest subject at Mac. So unless you're extremely profiecient [which I found out I'm only moderately proficient] stay clear

YORK!?!?! The dude got into McMaster and you're telling him to go to York?

As far as courses I'm not sure, but definitely don't leave Mac for anything short of= UoT, Queens, UBC, McGill, maybe Western.

On another note I just realized those are all the universities I applied to lol.

mac? snobs? since when?

snobs = queens

i've never taken either course, but i took math 1N03 which is engineering calculus... i have no idea what high school math is like these days but as long as you can differentiate and integrate, 1N03 wasn't too hard... 2nd term calculus was a different story...

so yeah, if you can handle OAC calculus (or its equivalent, whatever it is these days) then you can handle either course since i'm assuming they're not as hard as ENG math...

welcome to mac btw....

ok if its just science calc you will find it a breeze, 1st semester engineering calc is a little harder. I go to mcgill and i found it pretty hard... Second semester was another story... twice as hard. But science is easy (flame suit on) compared to engineering so dont worry...
