Yeah, I'm really really really glad I just sold my soul for the money, and paid out the ass to buy my Techs and a semi-decent mixer. Still need to upgrade that though.

yea i got a behringewr djx700. what a piece of shit. dont know what one to get next though. i was thinking of a pioneer djm600. because it has -26db cut. my behringer has -32 db cut and its just too much, and its sometimes hard to set it to sound rite. and there is no way in hell i can get the xone 92. it nbeeds to be 4 channel as well. i really like the look of the new denon one as well. just havent looked at its db cut.

damn, your not playing around going for the 92. As soon as you get it, you'll forget about the large chunk of money you just blew and just enjoy it. As for the Berhinger, throw it off a bridge and watch it explode.

Well, I started out buying POS tables and mixer, but instead spent the money on kick ass speakers (JBL25s) and an amp (Crown CE2000), and I'm still happy with that decision. Sure upgrading sucks, but I think I made up for it.

Hmmmm, I would generally agree that getting anything but Techs (or at the very least comparable quality decks by another brand) is a bad idea, but I haven't really regretted my choice in mixers all the much.

I have a Behringer VMX-200, and I would consider it to be the bare minimum necessary in order to mix trance (in terms of having reasonably decent EQs and such), but I haven't really had all that much urge to buy a newer/bigger/better mixer yet.

I think it is really important to start out with Technics (not CDs), a decent mixer and *comfortable* headphones.

If you get the Technics on eBay you can always resell them for what you paid. I just sold a set for $700. Even if you get them new you are only going to loose $150 if you resell them. While other brands probably make decks of equal quality they aren’t going to have the same resell power that the Technics will.

The first mixer I had was useless. I didn’t enjoy learning. After about 3 months my roommate bought a used DJM-300. You can get these thing used on eBay for ~$150 and they really are awesome for the price. Suddenly mixing was fun and I wanted to play all the time. Mixing on a crapping mixer will make you want a quit, it almost got me.

I started with some Sony headphones that hurt my head over an hour or so. When they broke I got some Pioneers and man life was good. They were great and I would play for hours and hours with them and never felt any discomfort.

I know all this stuff costs money but for around $1000US you can get great gear that you can always resell for around the same amount. I think it's worth it.

Keith

While I definitely agree that it's good to not start out with crappy equipment, I have to disagree with some of you guys when you say it's necessary to start out with Technics and such. I've got two Numark TT-200s and a Numark PPD-01, and quite frankly I think they work quite well for my needs. I'm currently hoping to get a couple CDJ-800s in the next few months, then some good speakers, then a Rane Empath, then who knows... but all that notwithstanding, my point remains that though I haven't started with "industry standard" equipment, I'm nevertheless rather happy with what I do have.

As long as your happy with your gear, and you want to mix with it, thats all that matters...you don't need the best of everything to enjoy mixing, just as long as its good enough for the task and your style.
