Right up my alley - lots of progressive, melodic, tech tinged house! Favourite heavyweight jock from Argentina, Hernan mixes up this latest instalment in the acclaimed Renaissance Masters series, with all the due care and attention it deserves.
Spinning a diverse and energetic blend of house, breaks, tech-house and even techno, Hernan weaves a magic DJ spell thats hypnotic and compulsive listening. His mixing is tight, his programming well considered and the energy of his set is inspired.
CD1 sets out all deep and dreamy, with a track produced especially for Hernan by Darko & Gainer, and is followed up by the Richard Davies groove thing In The Air which is in turn followed by a skipping Time To Kill by Pams Magic Tractor. Chugging and progressive theres a lot to spot for the train spotters with Casa Flava taking the mix darker before the Alexander Kowalski cut, popular in Cattaneos sets, Scarpia slips in. This is a truly beautiful track, melodic and fluid followed by an uplifting mix into a vocal Honey by Bill Makris. Sweet!
The mix continues, with a trucking dub diamond by Rolasoul before Makris returns with another production, Dreams which has a filtered, skipping uplifting melody. By track nine the Dutch hero of house, Matthew Dekay and fellow producer Alvredo enter Hernans mix with a dark Herbal Dub ý very nice! Canadas Jay Tripwire and his tight vocal funk is mixed into Dekay and the outcome is a Slo Roast which provides a respite with some jazzy breaks. A terrific track apt at this juncture is then dropped by Cattaneo a deep jazzy, percussive dub number called Cultural Assertion by Tiger Corps and Randall Jones.
Agent 001 succeed the drums of the Tigers with a 16b Remix before The PQM Project finishes off CD1 with an Aenema, a beautiful floating guitar track but with some cheesy vocals for those dawn moments. CD2s mixed bag opens lets loose with a sexy number by Chab called Closer To Me which builds as a stunning introduction. Drama soon gives way to the acid influence of Josh Winks Oakish whose plink plonk provides a background for the aloof T-Empo acapella dropped over by Hernan in a spooked out Foukd moment.
After some electro business Cattaneo decides its time for his own production to enter the mix, its a collaboration with Dean Coleman and is a tribal work out with huge pads in an epic trance style. The late night mix then tunes into Hernan and Garcias remix of All I Know and the music is firing with progressive sparks and trance tap is firmly turned oný Alex Dolby provides a secure hazy Hawkins moment before Luke Chables The Shepperd gives us some skipping beats and pounding hypnotic drums to contend with.
Steve May follows with a twisted but fascinating instrumental drum track, Danny Howells & Stef Vrolijk follow suit with their unique Yoshitoshi future vocal single and curious distorted piano/guitar sampled builder, Phono Corono. A French kiss styled loopy cut breaks it up before the Age Of Loves Renaissance classic gets a bootlegged finale inclusion.
A great double album from a superb club brand!
Long-live Renaissance, and nice one Cattaneo!
