How hard is it to live in NYC?

Just wondering how hard it would be to live comfortably (in or around NYC) in a decent sized apartment (2+ bedrooms with roomates), in a decent safe area . . . . .with a car??????

How much would i have to make a month realistically?

FUCKING HARD.

2 bedroom apt w' a parking space will run you at least $3000 in the city.. other boros lke queens for example, around $2000 or cheaper if you prefer the ghetto... stay in DC and save your money.. i cant stand NYC atm. i wanna get the fuck outta here.

it depends on the area u want to live, but it is extremely hard bc everyone wants what YOU want so opportunitys arise and a split second later they are gone. realistically if u want to find the ideal apt in nyc u have to make it your second job (no joke). good luck though and start saving

you might be able to swing 2 bedrooms and a car if you lived with 2 other people... unless you're making some serious bread, in which case your options multiply. If you're making under 6 figures, you wont find that type of deal in manhattan.

even the boroughs have become gentrified -- i've been priced out of the neighborhood in brooklyn that i grew up in once the starbucks and sushi places appear it's all over...

your best bet is to look at local neighborhood papers for apt listings instead of the major papers and spread the word among everyone you know to keep an eye out for you. Also check the village voice online tuesday night before it hits the stands on wednesday.

Remember the cardinal rule of apt hunting in nyc: if you find a good deal jump on it immediately because if you hesitate it will be gone.

yea it amazes me how all u guys can live with no cars and still go to Toronto, DC and other spots. Not to be disrespectful, but i was so happy to come back to VA (and even DC), and park where ever I wanted to and not be worried that my shit was gonna get jacked.

pitabread- did you ever think of living in hoboken or jersey city? they're kinda hot spots right now bc they're a lot cheaper than the city yet they're a 10 minute ride from manhattan, etc. plus, resident of the cities get permit parking on the street- dont think they pay anything for that. a studio in hobo can go for 8-900/m

Dude, two friends of mine rent a 2 bedroom apt in a pretty good section of queens. They pay $1200/mo.(split into 600ea) No parking space though. Just park on the street.
