Well, dude, there's a whole science behind it
Do I understand that you bought the equipment without much prior knowledge of DJ'ing?

j/k remember 4.......its the magic number.....almost all trackz revolve around it (4 beats) and u should learn to master this.

I'd recommend timing the BPM's of each of your records. Just go to download.com and find a BPM counter program.

Once you do that you'll get a general idea of how much you'll need to adjust the pitch so the tracks are playing at the same speed.

The fine tuning is up to you and your ear. One stumbling block I personally encountered is that I would only ever adjust the pitch on one table, while that works well enough most of the time, you'll generally have to fine tune the pitch on each one until you have a perfect match.

j_spot: same here, although we both are probably counting without really meaning to. what i'm trying to say is, after a while, it's a lot more of a feeling than counting any beats.

honestly, the only lesson is to just practice, practice, and then practice some more. it'll come after a while. i never really read any tutorials or anything. don't give up! you'll be amazed at how quickly you can improve if you work at it. good luck essential_mixer!

this is what i do..... just little tricks that most all djs know that really make it much easier.... First month u probably wont be able differentiate between the beats on each song .... ok this is how i do it..... the record u want to mix in...... u can drag the needle over the Kick beat or Kick/Snare.... most songs usally go Kick...Kick/Snare....Kick......Kick/snare....anywa u hold it on one of these .....and u can hear the song playing and follow the beat kick kick/snare over and over again kinda follow with ur flow of ur body or tapping with her foot...just to get ur self on the rythum....then just release on the kick of the other song...if u held on the kick/snare then u have to release on the kick/snare of the tune thats playing...... then fallow the beats with ur head phones...and see if u need to increase or decrease the pitch of the song being mixed...u do that till they hold on each others beats for a while....if it goes off track kinda help the vinyl a little...with pushing on faster on the label...or slowering little by holding record .......u know when u have a beat in sink....it almost sounds very crisp!! ...and the speed of being able to do this depends on how muych u practice and the time!! but those are the steps of matching beats..... always make sure u have the kicks aligned right ...so u dont have a snare go off differently on each song ..... the Kick and Snare have to be Aligned...and many trance songs dont have the prodominate Snare so it doesnt really matter but it still sounds better if u do align the snare as well!...thats the advice i can give u its a hard way to explain over the net ..without showing in person but ..i think u can get the idea! ohh and on thing .... its all about the EAR...train ur ear to read beats and can tell what is faster and what is slower....then everything is pretty much down hill
