We truely live in pathetic times...

The "ban everything because it offends somebody" society has struck again. How long before they ban breathing in Canada?

Taken from the city of brampton website:

quote:
Members of Council continue to receive complaints about ice cream trucks selling ice cream on City streets in residential neighbourhoods and are working with Peel Regional Police to have the vehicles removed. Now, vendors who are found selling ice cream on City highways will have their vehicles towed to a City works yard and the towing costs becoming a lien on the vehicle. City By-law 93-93 prohibits the sale of goods on highways.

PATHETIC!!!!!

Dude, you don't even know the circumstances behind these complaints, so quit being ignorant.

WHat are the circumstances? That the bells were annoying? The music disturbed people? Somebody had to drive around the truck?

Ice cream trucks have been around as long as the gas powered engine. Why is there suddenly a (perceived) problem???

I guess strolling around thru streets lookin' for kids isn't as profitable anymore?

Based on your quote, I don't find that they are "banning" anything really. They are just enforcing a by-law that was always there from the first place.

Maybe they can prevent people from selling flowers at intersections too? hmmm...

Well, that works fine for people that do it in a peacefull none disruptive manor. But how about I park my ice cream truck out front of your house with the music blaring, then I'll leave and continue to drive by every 30 minutes all day long.

That would be annoying, and intrusive on MY property and home. I don't bother random people in their homes.

So it's not just "selling ice cream", there could be more to it.

I believe above it says RESIDENTIAL STREETS, we're not talking about towing the guy out front of nathan phillips square here.

without knowing all the details though, I think that's pretty f***ing lame.

Really my only complaint about ice cream trucks is that some drive around late at night. One came around my neighbourhood at 10pm...while I'm up until at least 1am every day, I suspect many people, particularly kids, are not...and that IS disruptive.

What I find far more disruptive and annoying are those big advertisments being towed around on flatbed trucks. WTF is up with THAT?!? It's distracting to drivers which is dangerous and it impedes traffic on downtown streets. Ridiculous.

Right and ice cream trucks have been selling ice cream to kids on residential streets since the beginning of time. again i ask, why all of a sudden is it such a "problem"?

I think the problem is more with the people and their mentality than it is with the trucks.

I was joking about the flowers thing.

I do not know the complaints of the Brampton people, but either way - the ice cream trucks were causing some sort of problem for them and the police are using this by-law to handle those complaints. Simple as that. I was merely pointing that out - and do not neccesarily support this action.

It won't. The ban everything society only bans things that arent politically correct. If hip hop were done by white guys im sure theyd go after it much like mel lastman tried to ban Eminem on the same weekend 50 cent was in town.

Yes of course, the people driving these trucks are the same people who have been there since the beginning of time. So they must behave the same way too, that would never change right.
