Evil1 Lowlife MP3 illegal downloaders!!!!

I'm trying my hardest in an already difficult industry to run a record label to bring unsigned music to the public.. I have invested alot of my own money with my business partner Damion Houchen (Genix) to try and make it a success...

We work hard at un-earthing great tracks, signing them, then promoting and turning them into great sellers!!! As you can imagine this takes alot of time, effort and money!!

Then i come on here and browse the Tracklist section to see which of the DJ's we have sent our tracks to, are supporting them!!

Then I find several posts of people that I know we haven't sent the track to listing in their "downloadable mix"...

So I PM these guys and politely ask where they got it from.. I had my first reply today concerning "Whirlpool & Octagen - Alaska"

The reply was:

from DJ Celica

message me on msn (b******@hotmail.com)
i will send it to you

A****

FOR F***S sake..!!! Some guy who doesn't even know me, is offering to send me a track I own the rights to.. a track i'm trying to market.. a track that I will try to sell as a record!!!

So from now on, I will openly come on here and name and shame people for doing this!!

You may dissagree with my actions but when you're in my position running a label.. action needs to be taken against these individuals!!!

You have all the right to blame them, and I understand the anger completely, but I honestly can't see what you're going to do about it.. I don't think that publicing their names and blaming them in the open is going to stop them from using MP3s in an illegal way.

But still, spinning MP3s without any support to the artist is lame. Unfortunately, there are too many people doing that, even on this board. They should be ashamed.

And don't blame me for thinking it's quite funny (in a sad way) that some guy is trying to send you an MP3 of a track you own the rights to

As I see it, your in between a rock and a hard place...you won't be able to promote your music without leaking it unrealeased to popular DJ's, so they can play it and make people want to buy it. Then again, by giving it to that select few, you are relying on them not to spread it around. You shouldn't blame someone here for getting a track that you let out in the first place. You should be blaming the DJ that you gave it to in the first place, and ask why they spread it around without your permission. Maybe you should choose who you give the track to a little more carefully, and let them know that you don't want the file shared.

I am really sorry for you, but you have to understand that this is the age of filesharing, and I think you cant really do anything about it.

Better be careful who you send promos to next time. I dont think there is any other way to prevent your stuff getting shared.

i thnk thats a really good point. You cant blame the person who downloaded it, because the uploader put it out there. Who ever you gave the vinyl to is at fault here.

So whenever someone is shot and murdered, we should sue the weapon industry?

Using illegal MP3s is still, eh, illegal.

Yes but your analogy is wrong...lets say a child takes his fathers gun and shoots someone, do we not ALSO blame the father for allowing the child to have access to the gun? We do! In fact, it is MORE the father's fault for allowing the child to have access to the gun than the child's fault for taking it.

In THIS situation, it is MORE the DJ who leaked the MP3 out than the person who downloaded it IMHO...

As the NRA says: "Guns don't kill people, people do."

Which is bollocks.(imo)

And the gun-filesharing analogy is not really a good one, since there are absolutely no benifits in having a gun, we would all be better off if guns would not have been invented, whereas filesharing has some merits, although at this moment they are being overshadowed by the illegal aspects of it.

Sorry for the half off-topic part :\

OK i accept that this thing will happen... but the person downloading and playing KNOWS they shouldn't have the track.. they haven't paid for it!!!

And if i find the person who put it up for download...

We are very strict with our mailing list.. there are only 7 vinyl copies of Alaska in circulation presently...

And if the people do want to support the track.. then e-mail the label.. tell them you aquired it and would they mind if you supported it.. THEN BOUGHT IT!!!!!!! Easy..

That's really a matter of opinion, you're right. But I still don't think my analogy is wrong, since it's my opinion and you don't have the right to call that wrong

I think ripping and spreading MP3s is a good way to let other people hear (I said HEAR, not USE) music without having the need to actually pass around the vinyl copy. The people that get their hands on those MP3s are to blame when they use them in their mixes and spread those around for their own personal promotion.

This discussion could get lengthy I think, and it'll come down to a matter of personal opinion

I'm still of the opinion that people are to be held responsible for their own actions, so I agree with that statement. And there are benefits of using a gun, people are even awarded Olympic gold medals for it
