Amazing how much beaurocratic money this would probably save, but....

People fear change. Especially change to something they've never tried before. There are bound to be countless problems and snags, and even if the resulting clusterfuck is exponentially better than the current system...people still ultimately fear change, hence I doubt this idea(That I spoke about months ago on this website) could gain popular acceptance.

One such issue I heard revolved around the issues senior citizens woult have with it. They've paid taxes all their lives and are now living on their already taxed savings(IRA's, etc). Suddenly someone wants to tax them again every time they purchase something...nah ah. I don't think that demographic would buy into it.

I would love to see this issue explored more seriously and more in depth to find out what the real pros and cons would be, as well as what sort of setbacks and unforseen snags might possibly develop from any fallout.

I still like the idea, I just don't think it's an easy sell.

If that gets passed, I'd move to the U.S.

I'd love to see a national sales tax, but it will never happen. What's more likely someday is a national flat income tax with no deductions, and an exemption for those at or below the poverty level. But even that has a slim chance of getting passed.

Something has to change though. Tax planning and preparation is nothing but an economic sinkhole, with businesses spending billions to avoid paying billions. It is a weight on the overall health of the economy, and if you've ever seen how large the tax code is, you know it's a pretty big weight and it's only getting bigger. (For my income tax class last year, our textbook was 1,200 pages, and the condensed version of the tax code that supplemented the book was 2,500. It's a total nightmare.)

Agree. National sales tax would reduce Income taxes, but states don't want the feds infringing on their bread and butter.
