To be honest, the CDJ 100's are ok for basic cd players, but don't buy a Berhinger or American DJ anything. Nothing else listed is woth owning or spending money on. Save up some flow and buy decent gear. You can also do a search...

Here we go again...

Hey man, If you are interested in getting started with CD equipment, jump onto Ebay, and do a search for some used CDJ500's... Those are some great starter cd decks, better than the 100's but not nearly as expensive at the 800's/1000MK2... As for a mixer, do some research, it seems like EVERYONE bashes Behringer.. For the price they charge, which isn't expensive they sell great products in my opinion, and NO I am not trying to lie to myself, cuz I don't own Behringer equipment, but I have used it, and it does a pretty damn good job for bedroom DJing. Take a look at getting something Vestax, Stanton, or used Pioneer (not the DJM)...

forget the axis8, they have brought out the axis9 and its wicked! i think its the best cd deck in the price-range you are looking at.

i also toyed with the idea of the american audio ones (although i was looking at the PS-2) but i looked through the manual and read peoples opinions on here, and it all seemed a bit complicated to use, and thats the last thing you want.

as far as mixers are concerned, i wouldn't go for the behringer. its not just people on this forum that bash them for making equipment that doesn't last 2 minutes . i would have a look at some of the low-end vestax mixers, they are built like a brick shit-house

the main difference is that the axis9 has the touch sensitive jogwheel which makes the scratch features and pitch adjustments much better (plus you can make pitch adjustments at the same time as using effects), and you can store 3000 cue points (but to be honest i never use that feature). you can also use multiple effects at once, although this can get confusing even if it does sound good.

i also heard there were some major issues with the firmware on the axis8, which is why they brought out the axis9.

basically the axis 8 and 9 are the same apart from the touch sensitive jog wheel. There were lots of problems with the axis 8's thats why the 9's came out. I did have a pair of 9's and i thought they were wicked but unfortunalty they let me down. If i were u i'd save up and get some denon 3000's.

basically one of the decks kept freezing on me. I took the decks back but it did the same thing. If i were u id wait until october if ya can as denon are bringing out a brand new cd deck the denon dn s1000, which is going to be around $450 or £250, which will rival numark but with the denon reliability and quality. Go to denons website and check it out!!!!!!!!

the touch sensitive wheel is much more responsive, and will turn your movements into scratches much much better. plus the fact that there are 2 points of contact. you can be altering your effect with the inner wheel, then release it for a moment while you nudge the track to keep it in time with the outer metal bit of the wheel. the amount of fucked up shit you can do with them is amazing!

jago: i just think you were unlucky mate, i've had mine for a while now and i have no complaints at all!

as far as mixers are concerned, i would go for the vestax over the numark, simply for the build quality. vestax pcv mixers are generally very sturdily built, and are easily serviceable. the pcv x-fader will also last you 2,000,000 fades
