Dealing w/phase

I read through a tutorial that I got from a link DJ Dawn posted. It mentioned the issue with phase but very briefly. What do you guys/gals do to combat the problem? If you have the songs perfectly matched, the bass most of the time disappears (not completely, but they cancel one another out a certain degree). Are you to actually match it up but be off by a fraction? That make's beat-matching all the more difficult if you have to have it off by a few seconds whether ahead or behind and avoid crossing over at any point (having them perfectly matched for more than a beat).

Comments, suggestions?

Have you tried decreasing the bass of one song and increasing the bass of the other one, in the mixing process? This way the overall volume will stay constant.

Another solution is to match up the songs in such a way that the bass of the second song kicks in immediately after the previous one's is completely over.

use the bass EQ to cut the bass of the first track while increasing the bass (from cut) to normal...

I find that if the two tunes are exactly matched, not almost, but spot on, then there is no phasing.

But thats just me.
