How is a california boy like me suppossed to get used to the rain in Sweden?

That's not typical swedish.
most of Europe is suffering from severe wind/rainstorms.
In Holland this august has been the wettest august ever with nearly 300mm of rain. It actually is the number 3 wettest month ever (that is compared with other rainy autumn months....)
It's totally insane... I have only seen sunshine for about 2 or 3 weeks, the rest of the summer was rain.
It probably starts to get darker in mid/end of the autumn afaik

You do not ge used to it. You just hate it more the more it comes. But don't worry, after a while you get bitter instead and that makes it a lot easier to deal with.
umm, where in sweden do you stay? You know, it's 2000km from north to south...
For the sun to set at 3pm even 22 december you will have to stay quite far up north I think? not sure about that however.

Actually, i like the rain. I don't know why, but it's an exellent opportunity to get a bit melancolic, and thet's good for the soul
