I haven't used either but from what I can gather from others' experience, the 280's are more about the sound quality, and the 25's are more about the demanding DJ use in clubs/big systems. The 280's are a lot bigger and bulkier and also sound a bit better. The 25's are light and pretty flexible, and have a punchier sound (for better beatmatching on a big system).

Of course I could be wrong.

I only have the 280s, but from what I've read in the forums (and you'll surely find the difference if you read the hundreds of headphones threads :P) I think the 25s are better for DJs, better bass, while the 280s are more oriented for producing, better sound I guess, although many people such as myself use it for DJing purposes...

I use the HD25, and the sound is fantastic... but the thing i really love about them is how much of the outside noise they block out. The sounds is really fantastic, but I haven't used the HD280 so I can't compare them directly. They are a dream to beatmatch in though.

to be honest, i thought the sound quality was fantastic in both, but i thought the 25's had the better sound

i own hd280's tho, and they are the best headfones ive ever used. they block out tonnes of ambient noise, and i would guess probably more than the 25's due to the bigger closed cups that go round your ears more as opposed to on them... i hate the small cups of the 25's.

and never get the hd25sp. they are poo on a stick. well, i'll rephrase that, they are good headfones on a stick. very rigid and annoying headband and cups that spin 360 degrees :/

Are they that bad?

The -25 are about $400, so I was looking at the 25SP as an option, they stack up equally price wise against Technics RPDJ1210 and Pioneer hdj-1000s, dunno about features tho........

another headphone thread

Hd 25s- excellent, but tiring on your ears after a while. one of the best pairs available. They WILL break
HD 25SP- same sound, but stupid swivelling headband cup type design which is retarded. They will break
Hd280- look cheap, sound cheap, are cheap. Utter wank- mentioning them in the same sentence as HD25s is an insult to them. Ridiculously big. They will break.

*forgive this post- im in a foul mood today, but i stand by what ive said

Bang on the money and blunt with it... this is why we like our Freak.

From my own experience I have found the HD25 to be the best I have used. They will break though but you can get replacement parts for them unlike a lot of other headphones.

Don't like the HD25SPs for all the above reasons.

HD280s... why are we talking about them again?

Cheers
Nem

because they are excellent headfones

i have to disagree with freak, in that they are not utter wank they might not be pretty, but they definitely do the job very well for me. they sound fantastic, and as mentioned parts are replaceable. they are also very comfortable to wear.

i have seen a lot of people saying something about how the hd280s break, but i have noticed how much ware i am giving mine and they seem to be withstanding even sunday sessions fucked out of our minds! and have been doing for quite some time now.

Gotta add that my HD280 cans broke (the headband as most of you will have probably guessed). Love em - they sound great, love the flat frequency response and their isolation. I'm interested in the HD25 though, particularly interested in how they are better than the HD280... but this is the first time I've heard that people have had trouble with the HD25 breaking, because everything I have read, mostly on head-fi, says they are built extremely well, unlike the HD280. I'm also interested in how well they isolate as compared to the HD280, of course taking into consideration that the HD280 is circumaurel (encompasses your ears) while the HD25 is supraaural (sits tightly up against your ears, not around them).

This is another part I like about them.

Also I have to add one more thing, when I bought my HD25's the cord which came with them was only 1.5m and that was a bit of a drawback, I don't find that cord long enough a lot of the time, but you can replace this cord easily as with most of the other parts on the HD25.
