Hay has anyone here ever worked on an oil rig? or does anyone have any friends that have. I just finished school and it cost my so much money that im ganna be in debt for the next 15 years. i wanna work on a rig because of the high pay, even doing it for a year would pay off pretty much all of my debt.

anyway, anyone with info, storys, or advice would be appreciated

A friend that my dad stayed with when he was in the army during the vietnam war now works on an oil rig. I dont know many of the details, but I know the shifts are long (12 hours or more per day for about 6 months), the high pay is offset by inflated costs of food, room & board, etc while on the rig, and the danger to your health is high.

However, ive considered this as a possible job in the past. The pay is still decent after being removed from the rig, you get to work offshore with beautiful scenerey and its a quality workout and fulfilling job.

Ya in the reasearch ive done so far for the most part it says that when you work on somthing like an off-shore oil rig the company pays for all living expenses, (food, laundry, houseing etc..) and usually the shifts ater 14days on 21 days off, i guess they rotate like that.

What kind of school did you go to, that you will be in debt for 15 years?

well maybe 15 was a little over the top but i went to an audio engineering school in Vancouver and im not 40 grand in debt after 2 years.

The job market for your chosen career isn't good? I don't get it. You finished school, but don't want to go into the field you studied?

you didn't think about the debt before deciding to go to that school?

i guess thats around $30k USD or so, im not sure of the exchange rate but this sound about right. thats a LOT for 2 years of school.

well, i'm sure you can pay this amount off during a longer period of time (student loans i'm assuming). So consolidate it now into a lower APR and you'll be good to go...

good luck! i got about half of what you owe to pay off on my student loan debt.

ya if your ganna make money then you got to work freelance. unfortunatly untill i make some cash i cant buy an editing rig. Its next to impossible to get a job in a recording studio unless you want to server coffee for 2 year un-paid, or unless you got a hookup.

I do have one very good job oppurtunity that looks like it might pan out, but if it dosnt i want to be able to go do somthing to pay this shit off fast. oh and there are schools that are way more expensive then what i did.

actually these days in the US 30000 for 2 yrs. is abt reasonable, comes up to 15000 per yr...

NYU takes abt $45000 EACH yr...(thats prolly including living expenses)

Private institutions teaching specialized trades are more expensive then most universitys, dont know if its the same in the states but that how it is here.

Come to Calgary...this place is full of "rig pigs". It's retardedly hard work but you can really make some good money in a short time cause when you're on the rigs...there's no way to spend money. They also have Seismic work out here which is similar, shitty hard work but great pay. I don't know if you've seen this site

i never worked on a oil rig but i worked for a company that did look for oil in the dirt pay was good real good but the hours and degree of work too much i was pullin about 1600 a week plus about 250 hotshot for living expenses ,yeah i had to travel alot
dont do it unless you are sure you can handle it
