1.right well basically i cant remember what the story is with amps and speaker wattage. is it that your amp must be of a lesser wattage than the speakers but onky just so that it is able to power them>? so a pair of 125each speakers could be powered by a 100per channel amp????? |
Im not sure about the second but I can help a little on the first one. The power the speakers can handle normally is the RMS power and the peak power is the amount of power it can handle in short bursts. When buying an amp for your speakers you should try to match the RMS power of the amp and speakers first. This is more important. Then try to come as close as you can to peak power.

I dont know about your first one, I have always heard dont go over the recomended wattage for speakers... remember speakers have a rating for what they should handle normally, and then a ratting for what they can handle in short bursts... so if you have 400watt speakers... Im pretty sure your not gunna have a problem with a 400watt per channel amp. |

I am not entirely sure of this but I heard that you have a higher chance of damaging speakers underpowering them than overpowering them. But dont over power them much. I think it has something to do with the speaker not being able to cool itself properly. I used to have a 100W sub in my car powered by a 125W amp and never had any problems. But like I said I am not entirely sure if this is true. Has anyone else heard of this?
Hope this helps.
