Pioneer's new toy: EFX-1000

Saw this in Music Discussion, but I guess it warrants a thread here too.

Hmm... it looks very cool, but in an old school sort of way. Also, it looks like it's fairly big for an effects unit. Furthermore, though I expect the street price to be lower, an MSRP of $1000 is a pretty penny. Lastly, although it does have 24/96 hi-quality sound, I don't see how it'll do a lot more than the 500. I guess I'm just skeptical, but it'll definitely be interesting to see what it can do when it comes out.

ugly and expensive. it looks like it really only has the higher sound quality to seperate it from the 500, so producers and installations look like the market. No eq's like the 500 has seems a little wierd. I was hoping for somehting more like the 909 effects, and also for a sampler (or two). a bit of a let-down really. I guess we'll have to wait for the demo videos to show up on the pio forums to see how they plan to sell this.

thjis looks sweet. there are lots more effects, and a lot more controllability (wet/dry knob for jog effects, + character switches on both).... nicer jog wheel. seems to be lacking isolators though which are very handy.

pricey though :/

could you please post a full review of when you used it, stating the reasons that led you to this conclusion.

I wanted to show my friend my sig, hadn't posted recently. That was the reason for the short post .

Anyways, while I haven't used it, it doesn't seem to add enough to the efx-500 (which I have used, btw), to justify the extremely high price. I could find better things to spend the money on then some expensive effects.

Would you care to inform the class exactly what kind of relevance this comment has to our discussion, whatsoever?

There are plenty of capable DJs out there (including many on this forum) who have no trouble mixing and want to be more creative with a good effects unit. So go conversate elsewhere.

Amen.

People struggle with the basics elements of dj'ing why the heck they're concentrating on FX is beyond me

still has fuck all to do with this conversation.

there is a lot more on it thats updated/extra stuff on top of the efx500:

*bypass mode for easier cutting of effects (no more running out of hands!)
*signal flow switch so you can route the effects how you like (remember this is actually 2 effects units, on the efx500 they are in serial, beat effects go through jog effects, then out. now you can chop and change this as you like)
*extra beat effects: phaser, filter, pitch echo
*extra jog effects: phase shifter, humaniser, vocoder!!
*looks like a new touch sensetive jog wheel
*added controllability, wet/dry knobs on both sides (efx500 only has this on beat effects), new character knobs also on both sides.
*custom memory presets for your own rhythms on beat effects
*loop function on the jogwheel memory
*2 extra timing buttons for 1/8 and 8/1 on beat effects
*much improved level meters for both input & output (they are a lot more useful)
*24 bit digital output
*32 bit digital processing

a direct price tag for the UK, going on the RRP is £556, which is £300 more than the 500. the sound quality will be magnificent on this, and i should think a lot of clubs and studios will snap it up straight away. i would sincerely love to have a play on one of these to see how the mofo works
