A vote for the democrats is like a yank voting for ralph nader in the next or past election......its a waste of a vote imo.

In the lower house it's a moot point, becuase the Liberal candidate for my area (Kevin Andrews - the wanker that got euthanasia banned in the NT ) always romps it in by a long way. If I thought it was going to be close then I'd probably vote Labor, but seeing as it won't be then I might as well vote with my conscience.

On the other hand, make sure you vote for the Dems in the senate. It's a proportional vote, so the more votes the Dems get nationwide the more seats they get in the house. Whether it's Labor or Liberal who win the election (i.e. the Lower House) we need the Democrats in the senate to hold the balance of power and keep everyone in check. So stop asking questions and just vote for them.

If you know anything about economics you'll vote liberal. If you want to pay more taxes and have your money spent on special interest groups by stupid socialists vote labor.

You do know that the Democrats currently hold the balance of power in the senate, right?

Just on the Democrats point, they're currently languishing in the polls -- and whether we like it or not, they're going to struggle in this election. The 'leftist' vote certainly seems to have shifted to the Greens – they’re consistently polling at around 10%. Their policies (Greens & Democrats) are very close to each other, and as far as I’m concerned they're both worthy of votes -- it's just a matter of which one happens to be doing better in the polls (for me at least). But yeah, I’ll be voting Greens in both houses -- with the Democrats and Labor behind. I've decided to put the Liberals last this time around (yes, even below One Nation), if Costello was the leader I might reconsider, but I'm afraid that the whole ‘let’s lock up young children in the middle of the desert for political advantage!’ thing has worn a bit thin on me. To be perfectly honest I can’t see myself ever voting for the Liberal party again after what they’ve done with regards to refugees, the Iraq war, the US-AU alliance, the Environment etc.
