Metallic filtered droning sound
Hi all
Can anyone tell me where this particular sound is from - either how to generate it or where it originally came from. It's a metallic sound, single pitch, high in pitch (around 800Hz-2kHz) with a low pass filter over it, opening then closing, possibly timestretched to give a metallic sound, and (apologies for the synaesthetics!) it gives a sound I can only describe as feeling like a 'heat haze'. I first heard it in BT's Flaming June back in 1996 but it keeps cropping up in dance tracks and this evening it was used as a background texture in the ITV Drama 'Messiah'. In that context it sounds chilling. I've tried to create it myself but never quite get it. Any ideas?
If you've got a copy of BT's flaming June, the sound pops in behind the 303 bassline. and in other places during the track.
Also if anyone's got the Donnie Darko soundtrack, a similar sound is used a lot on 'Manipulated Living'.
Sorry the description's not great!
