BIOGRAPHY WOODY VAN EYDEN

Woody van Eyden, the native Dutchman, was born in Weert. His mother was a well-known opera singer in the Netherlands, the brother a sought after studio musician since 1960’s and his sister a musician in her own right. When he was younger there was nothing else that fascinated him more than music. This fascination focused on DJ’s and has captivated him ever since. In June 1978 at the age of almost 15 Woody was the resident DJ of ’Joy’ in the Dutch city Roermond near his hometown Weert. Woody was one of the youngest DJs in the country at the time. Two years later he won various DJ contests against stiff competition. In 1981 Woody became the regionally and only one year later the South Dutch DJ champion.

Bit by bit the Netherlands became too small for the rising DJ. In 1984 he felt an urge to summer to Ibiza. Upon arriving he promptly turned the discotheque “Angels“ into a public magnet with his unique style of mixing. The contacts, which the nimble-fingered DJ made at the time were invaluable. Woody spent the winter four months in Belgium and three months in England further developing his knowledge whilst also playing in some of the countries super clubs. Before leaving Ibiza Woody secured a residency at the club “Extasis“ for the summer of 1985.

In the following years Woody made his home base Germany. He played his mixture of bursting trance, balearic beats and elegant, funky house grooves in the German clubs. Packed dance floors were guaranteed if only his name appeared on flyers. He became resident in several clubs, toured all over Europe and began to organize groundbreaking acid and techno parties. It was in 1987 that Woody reached the decision to make his first production under his own name. “DeeJay Woody” released the title “Party All Night“, a rap song with his own penned lyrics.

The sympathetic DJ-star could not get away from the Balearic Islands. So, in the summer of 1994 he went to Majorca. Woody became resident in the discotheque “Riu Palace” and was not only the DJ but was also responsible for overseeing all club events for the next four years. In these four years Woody had brought 68 world class DJs and 12 Live Acts to the Riu Palace as well as organizing coverage on both Dutch and German Television networks.

In 1993 he became acquainted with André Tanneberger soon to be known as ATB. The conversation went something along these lines “You have the contacts and I make the music so lets collaborate“. This co-operation with André was extremely effective. This duo and together with Uli ’Spacekid’ Poeppelbaum founded Clubbgroove Records in 1997. All three of the founders work for and with each other as producers and remixers. Woody was among others a co-producer on ATB‘s chart topper ’Killer’. Additionally Woody signed top acts Rank 1, Bad Habit Boys, Alex Morph for Clubbgroove. Woody use to be also a member of the rave sextet ’Sequential One’ in the mid 90ies.

As a DJ Woody became more and more in demand. Bookings from Berlin to Miami, Amsterdam to Sydney and from Moscow to Abu Dhabi were some of the places requesting his services. His music was and continues to be in demand all over the world.

More then 85 individual productions for which he is responsible for, are absolutely convincing of his diverse producing talents. This dates from his first release in 1987 under his own name to different chart successes.

Mr. van Eyden has also been in big demand as a remixer, for artists like Scott Mac , Alex M.O.R.P.H., AYU, ATB, DT8 aka Darren Tate, JamX & Deleon aka DuMonde, Atlantic Ocean as for labels like Ministry of Sound U.K., Contour, FFRR, Serious, ATCR and others more.

In Oct 2003 he founded his new trance label “Fenology Rec.” with already great success with different releases. His new single “S-I+RG-I” will be released in Oct/Nov 2004 and it was already scouted by Scott Bond who calls it track of the year. His new vocal trance side project “Van Eyden feat Susanne Webb” is due to be in the big players playlists by Sept 2004.

BIOGRAPHY HELLER & ENKIE

As Trance sound started to assert itself in the German clubs, Heller & Enkie were still young teenagers. At that time they lived without knowing themselves, many hundred kilometres far from each other and both experienced the early years of the electronic music scene alone for themselves. However, the new club culture fascinated both early and soon they developed from "usual" club visitors to active creators of the scene. Aga Heller became known as a promoter of different events and he took over the management of different clubs, which names are legendary today, as for example the “Oz” or the “Nexus 6” in Stuttgart. His own club followed and only short time later he became a member of the management of the Stuttgart based "M1_The Club". He also founded a booking agency before which should develop to one most important of her kind in Germany. In this time he worked together with the biggest stars of the scene, among others with Sven Väth, Paul van Dyk, Armand van Helden, Roger Sanchez, WestBam, Deep Dish or also Carl Cox. In the beginning he still found time to work in his real job as a radio editor, later he still presented one of the most successful radio shows in the area of Stuttgart for years. Aga Heller spent most time at that time with the work in the background of the scene, he had only rarely the chance, to stay in front of turntables by himself. However, his love to the music brought him over and over in front of the decks.
In 2000 Aga Heller sold his agency and he came to Hamburg, where he started to work for Warner Music. Shortly after he met Oliver Enkie the first time.

At that time he experienced likewise an exciting history in the scene of Hamburg by himself. In the middle of the 90s he has been a resident DJ at the legendary “Tunnel Club” in Hamburg. He played even regularly in the most respected clubs across the nation and at all big events, as for example at “Tresor” in Berlin or also at the “Love Parade”. However, as a active member of the Hamburg scene it was always not enough for him to stand exclusively behind turntables. He started to organize different smaller and bigger events and produce own tracks and remixes. Fast he reached bigger and bigger success in these years, so that he was less djing. Together Heller & Enkie discovered their love to trance music, at a time when in most German clubs nearly only cheesy commercial tracks were played. Heller & Enkie see themselves in the tradition of "real" trance DJs, like Paul van Dyk, Tiesto or Armin van Buuren, but they also love open minded House DJs, as Deep Dish, Danny Tenaglia or Sander Kleinenberg But they dissociated themselves from the commercial dance scene. For Heller & Enkie it is quite simple: "Trance is not a genre for us, Trance is tuneful and pushing sound and not this dizzy stuff with vocals, with predictable structures and many drum whirls. Trance can be, actually, everything, from Progressive House to Techno. We cannot be fixed on anything." The dj team is known for euphoric Trance music with high claim. Abroad, how to the Netherlands or in the U.K., the sound was much more popular when they began to work together, than in Germany. Therefore, Heller & Enkie knew, that the time for Trance would come sooner or later. After the “Commercial Overkill” of the dance scene in 2003, trance is getting bigger again in their homeland and Heller & Enkie belong to the most important innovators of the scene.

This is due to the fact above all that Heller & Enkie took over the responsibility for the mix album series TRANCE NATION nearly two years ago. TRANCE NATION is the oldest dance compilation series of Germany and counts is to this day as pointing the way for "real" Trance music. Regularly Heller & Enkie release new volumes of the series and present the recent and worldwide most respected Trance sound in their DJ mix. In 2004 TRANCE NATION celebrated the ten years anniversary!

Heller & Enkie are working together since some in their studio, but it took some time until their first single was finished. „Yesterday’s Tomorrow“ will be released in autumn 2004, but it is already played by different star DJs in front of the official release.
