Man, you dont know what you're saying, well the thing here is that u dont live here where this music that u like I just hate it, and everyone here in Puerto Rico listens to it.
This style of music came out of dance hall but turned out into another thing [Lets called something like puertorrican hip hop]
But I totally disagreewith it cause they have copied element of the hip hop culture to it, and its not totally original.
Im a hip hop fan, but regueton, man thats crap, im sick of listening to it, blasting the radios here in PR since 1994.
My 20 cents.

Fellow puertorican haters, its stil EDM
even some with good melodies. Don't deny your roots.
I live here in PR and I dont hate it, most people around neither.
That genre is the most popular music around here nowadays, it doesnt means is the best genre around but theres no reason for any hating.
This music originally evolved from dance hall, but lately it has nothing to do with it. It has evolved to a very original sound. the even should change the "reggaeton" name so it get rids of the reggae thing as the music currently has nothing to do with reggae.
Purely EDM with beats broken, hard bass, with the largely spanish lyrics which originally was mostly about local gagsta issues; but as it got commercialized, lyrics changed to very mainstream issues mostly about sex. Beats are very danceable. Later main audience grew to mostly teens and young adults between all local spanish speaking social structures, just very like hip hop has done in US culture. Its big and its growing.
The coolest people around seems to listen this music, but that doesnt mean they follow their original gangsta stereotype or behavior.
So live in PR and bein a "reggaeton" hater because listening to EDM I think is worse and foolish than the average person who thinks trance sux cuz they dont get it.
