Improve Your Eq Technique..............

Im fairly new to trance addict, and have posted on here before asking about mixing techniques,so i just thought i would share with everyone a usefull way i use to practice my eqing.Firstly i think most people tend to just mix over and over again in the speakers to try to get there mixes tight and this is very difficult because all the sounds are threw at you at once, how i practice is to match any 2 records then turn down the speaker volume completely, take of my headphones and turn them up full then i mix using the headphones as speakers, obviously you cant do this in a club but just to practice using the eq its brilliant, you will be amazed how tight your 2 records fit together when you bring up the faders and listen on the main speakers.Just eq 2 tunes together JUST listening to the headphones(not on your head) as tight as possible then bring both faders up in and see how tight they sound, this gives you more of an idea how much of what to use(gain and eq)

One of my friends strongly recommends learning this way. I can do it, but it is not the way I first learned. It does teach you to notice minimal changes and be able to correct them by distinguishing beats.

It depends on what speakerset you use. If you have a very neutral speakerset, it's a nice way to learn it.

I never mess around with my EQ though, with a good cut and mixer you get best quality by leaving the EQ untouched. Ofcourse it's a different story with a bad cut (for instance Mclachlan - Fallen (G&D remix, with this record I almost have to increase the topfilters 100%).
