The story with needle weight is this (I've said this in another topic too):
The heavier you set your needle (to a certain limit), the better sound quality you get and the faster your records wear. 1,5g is REALLY light, so indeed you practically don't have any wear but your sound quality sucks like hell too (cracking and popping )
Try setting it to 3. That's double the weight but still pretty light (I use 3,5 on my Ortofons), so the wear won't be that bad (it really starts when you set it higher than 4 grams). |
Well, the majority of my records play fine at that setting. If my other records would have this problem, I would have mentioned it. I'll try to set it to 3.0 and see if that will minimize cracks and pops. M44-7 has very little overall wear on records anyway.
