HappyHappy Sennheiser HD Range ...

Specifically the 580, 590 and the 600. It mentions on the site that they are best for classical music enthusiasts, does this make them shit for trance?? Im only interested in listening, no monitoring

Seen the 580s for £80 on sale, is this a good price??

Thx

Exclamation ..........

I have the HD 600 if you need them for mixing, dont buy them.
but if you need them only for listening and music creation then they are very very good the sound is amazing.

Crusader/Cru5ad3r,

Those open Sennheiser HD-### series leak about as much sound as the cheap headphones that are bundled with personal portable stereo equipment, when both those Senns and those cheapies are playing at the same volume loudness on the inside of the phones. Some brands of open-air headphones (Grados, for instance) leak even more sound to the outside than those Senns.

Well. let's see.....

The HD580 and 600 are great, if you are listening to music, even trance, in a quiet environment, alone, with a fairly strong amount of power going to the headphones, or if you are creating music, even trance, in a quiet studio, alone, with some amplification on the headphone jack.

However, if you are not gonna be using them in a quiet place, and your headphone jacks are underpowered, don't get these.

Consider the Sennheiser HD25, instead. Or, if you have a good-powered headphone jack, the Beyerdynamic DT-831, or some other Beyer headphones (I don't know much about their professional line). Still, if you are looking at THIS level to MIX with, you have a *lot* of options, which will increase what you can do with your tools, IMMENSLY. Especially if you have powerful headphone jacks on your equipment...

Only interested in LISTENING? As in, for pleasure, not for accuracy, at the price level of the Sennheiser HD600's?

Well, depending on the type of sound you like, you have a lot of options:

HD600 (pretty hard to drive WELL [ie, so they have enough bass, but when you do, they have it], but, if you like that open, airy, all around you sound [which can help a LOT with trance], these would be great)
GRADO SR-325 (easy to drive, very open, leak and let out a lot of sound, but if you want WHAM WHAM impact, and up-front sound, and lots of bass, these are great)
SONY MDR-CD3000 (easy to drive, closed, but not really, let in a lot of sound, if you want something that surrounds you and seems made for trance, and has good impact, get these. I'd suggest these if you wanna reproduce the "club" atmosphere in your own home.)
BEYERDYNAMIC DT770 PRO (kinda easy to drive, closed, good bass for rock, maybe good for trance, because of the exaggerated bass)
BEYERDYNAMIC DT931 (open, pretty hard to drive WELL [so they have enough bass, but, again, if you do drive them well, they DO have it], but accurate and open. sort of the middle ground between the grado's and the senn's in impact, but only if you have the right amp for it)
ETYMOTIC ER4P (VERY closed, inside-the-ear-canal earplugs, easy to drive, exaggerated bass, and better sounding bass than pretty much anything, but it's bass you hear, not feel, unless you are one of the lucky people, for whom the ety's fool the brain to feeling bass around your entire body. You need to get the fit right to get any bass, though.)

Well Ive decided that getting the 580s would be stupid as the 590s replace them and look much better. I can get the 590s for £80, but the 600 for £150, so the question is: Are the 600 worth £70 more than the 590s??

I dont really like the look of the grado hps, although i sure the hps produce really good sound and bass, at the end of the day, if im paying around ~£100, I want something that is good quality in both design and make

Well Id be listening in my bedroom so it would be almost silent, so open hps arent a prob, tho powering them might be. Sometimes I have to put my gaming headset thru my speaker jack and turn that up (when listening to movies on my comp), but that maybe the poor driving quality of my plantronic hps (www.plantronics.co.uk)

So really its either beyerdynamics (which arent really that known), sony or sennheiser

Actually, the 590's sound a LOT worse than the 580's or 600's.

In the Sennheiser line, there are a LOT of bad headphones with numbers that don't actually DENOTE their quality... because they change things around a bunch, and, a lot of times, it doesn't work. The 590's, for example, are waaaaaay too bright. The 580's and the 600's are worth more than the 590's, EASY. The real question is... are the 600's worth more than the 580's, because the 580's and 600's sound ALMOST THE SAME, and the 600's only sound better if you have really good equipment to back them up. Basically, it's 590<580<600, with a big space between the 590 and 580, and a small one between the 580 and 600. However, only look at these if you want laid-back, kinda relaxed, accurate headphones. If you want WHAM WHAM, you probably won't like these. Everything I told you gets deep bass, by the way.

Huh? I haven't TOLD you anything that is anything less than "Good Quality" in design and make, and look. EVERYTHING I have said is built well, and looks awesome!! Including the Grado's, the Senn's, the Beyers, and the Sony's!

By the way, I edited my post a bit. Reread the stuff I said. You may want to check out the Etymotic ER4P's, for example...

And, by the way, who cares how well known the headphones are? These companies, Beyer, Sennhieser, Grado, Sony, are *THE* biggest quality headphone manufacturers. That, and AKG. Check out www.headphone.com , man (they don't have sony because Sony won't let them sell ONLY sony headphones, and not other sony stuff.)

I dont mean to be mean gluegun, but can I ask how u know which has the best sound quality out of the 580, 590 and 600. As I think the 600 is out of my price range, but I can get the 580 and the 590 @ £80 each

(And): As I said b4 in 1 of my earlier posts, these hps will only be for listening my my quiet room. There will be no mixing, no monitoring, no djing, etc

Alright, then... The IDEA is to find the best headphones for listening to trance in a relaxed setting that are easy to drive and are in your price range. And, YES, I HAVE heard the 590's, and YEA, they ARE too bright. And, I get most of my info off of www.head-fi.org, which is a place where audiophiles go to ARGUE, try, compare, and test out all of these high end headphones, and amps to go with them, and then pick apart the details of the review

Now, reading the DESCRIPTIONS of the headphones I told you, what do you think would be the type of sound you want?

Also, of these headphones:
Senn HD580
Beyer DT770
Beyer DT931
Grado SR-325
Grado SR-225,
Etymotic ER4P
Sony CD3000

which are in your price range? ALSO! Why do you want the HD580's if you can't drive them, and why do you want the 590's if they are so bright? If you are gonna use em from somethign without power, you should be looking at the Grado's and the Ety's, and the Sony's... but, supposedly, the Sony's are the best sounding for Trance of all headphones.

Thx for the help so far glue gun. Was just wondering, could u recommend a good but cheap amp (no more than £50/$80), if I was to go for the hd580.

Also, could u do me a favour plz and ask on that board if some1 from the uk could recommend any good online store for hps, the only 1 I found was: THIS and they only really have the sennheiser range, and no hd580 there

Thx amigo
