Our First Glimpse of an Exoplanet?

Not exactly political, but I figured that this is where all the nerds hang out, so:

Pretty exciting if true.

Wow, I was expecting some kind of a crappy image, but this one is really good. I can't believe they managed to take such a niche photo of it.

Beautiful photo...considering its 230 light-years away from Earth.

I sure do hope it is an exoplanet

Why do you hope it is true/find it exciting? I don't get it

It's the first time that humanity has been able to gaze upon a world beyond our own solar system - doesn't that, in some small way, make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck? Being here to witness the unveiling of our latest astronomical milestone? I mean, we've known about exoplanets for a while, but surely seeing one photographed (as opposed to one deduced from equations on a piece of paper) adds a whole new dimension to the experience? In a cosmic sense, doesn't it make you feel special to be human?

I don't know where to spill my enthusiasm: in the John Kerry thread or in this one. This thread simply makes me want to masturbate.

You can spill your "enthusiasm" wherever you want baby. We're all open minded individuals over here.

I think I get it - I just don't feel it. Maybe I've been lied to by photographs too many times, whereas the nice equations have always been my trusty friends.
When I see evidence of adaptive life in other parts of the universe you'll see me cheering. I promise.
