IMO the best synth on the market is the Roland Fantom-X, that baby does everything including! i don't own one (yet) because it does have a hefty price tag...i saw it for $3700CDN...but when the time comes, i plan to purchase it, the sounds are incredible, it has 1gig of sampling, has a large colour lcd which includes a mixing board view which allows you to mix tracks with the assignable knobs. Has an amazing 16step pad which is a lot of fun to use. i had the luxory of playing it recently and i'm just drooling over it, go to www.rolandus.com and check it out in the synth section...i haven't seen anything that compares.

Who cares, you have a virus thats good. Save the money for now and just keep practicing, making more and better tracks. IF you gave Fat Albert the best BBall shoes in the world doesnt mean he will play good.

cuz you've got a virus already you are pretty much sorted in the lead department so i would go for variety now and see if you can cover some more bases and just widen the sonic palette you've got at your disposal.

korg electribe - good for sequenced grooves and percussive loops. more of a sampler really...but it rocks. and its not that expensive.

korg ms2000 - good for basses and things. also fairly cheap considering what you get. theres a vocoder on it too.

USB Ultra Focus (VSTi) - this instrument just does everything. same league as spectrasonics atmosphere only more diverse.

Dave Smith Evolver - its not that expensive and its really different from most synths out there that ive heard. analogue synth (but it can do stuff that you wont have heard with traditional analogue) with step sequencer - ive heard some mad things coming out of it. cool to see some developers making synths outside of the usual virtual analogue mould.

sell that virus and get a powercore virus bundle...

comes with the virus powercore (sounds exactly like a B)

a near perfect emulation of the Roland SH-101 (a mono synth GREAT for basses and cheesy leads)

and a slew of really good FX...

that's basically all you need.. maybe a UAD-1 as well for a really really good compressor and EQ.. and a good pair of monitors...

after that the "fat albert" rule applys

definetly, however i, and a few others i know have been having problems with the virus powercore in fruityloops, when exporting, its missing notes, pain in the ass, i remember alot of people used to have this problem with Pro53. gonna switch over to cubase sx soon.

and yes iv got the latest update installed for the virus poco.

Peronally, I'd sink a lot more money into the monitoring system than into the synths. In that light the DSP systems make sense. I plan on testing out the DSP route myself.
