ta mystery.

i'm still having problems if anyone can help...

i'm using blueyonder broadband, and i'm installing a Linksys Wireless-G modem, so i can connect multiple PC's to my cable connection.

Firstly, it says in the setup.. "If requested by your ISP (usually cable ISPs), complete the Host Name and Domain Name fields. Otherwise , leave them blank." - obviously i'm on cable connection, so i presume i must do this. how do i get the Host Name & Domain name ?

It says i then have to select what config i have out of "Auto, Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP. i presume i am to use "Static IP" since i'm on cable and therefore have a static IP. Because i selected static IP, im prompted to enter the information i earlier requested. i get this from the cmd prompt...

quote:

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Wireless-G PCI Adapter
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-0C-41-61-E4-0B
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.101
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 20 August 2004 15:19:25
Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 20 August 2004 15:24:25

so i put in..

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.101
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

which is right i presume!?

any help on the first bit would be great, thanks!

That can't be right. Those are the IP's Windows gives when it can't find the proper ones.

absolute arseholes, just sorted the way they said not to do it. insted of doing the 'manual input' like it suggested, i just slapped in the auto-run CD which is meant for other types of connection and it worked. oh well, alls well that ends well!

might aswell ask while this thread is open, can anyone tell me how i find my real i.p. address since the above way doesnt work. thanks v.much!

does yours have web-based configuration? if so, go to that page (probably 192.168.1.1, or otherwise specified), and all the information you need should be on display.
