Can anyone recall the first trance song that just totally changed their outlook on the EDM scene? Perhaps music altogether?
About 2 years ago, I was perusing an internet forum when somebody randomly mentioned that they liked the trance song 'Theme From Norefjell' by DJ Tiesto. I thought to myself, "Self, you like techno, right? Maybe...I'm bored so why not check it out?" It was a good thing I had Kazaa at the time, because I would have never been exposed to it if it weren't for *illegal* file-sharing.
Among the fortunate events which occured that night, one of them was that I managed to find the song labeled 'Theme From Norefjell' and it was actually the DJ Jan & Christophe Chantzis Mix from Tiesto's Live in Innercity- RAI mix, NOT the crappy version from Magik 3 (Magikal Remake = blech)
This song changed me - it made me want more and more until my ears bled and my mind was somewhere far, far away from my body. It brought me to a higher state of being in only 3 short minutes
I still listen to that song for the sheer nostalgia of it all... and it's still a great tune
From that point on, my view of music was changed forever. I was no longer listening to 'techno' I was addicted to trance - and it's been my drug ever since.
Please share your story...

i always mention but ill mention it again cafe del mar is a tune that has such a big impact on many people including me
i remember gamemaster aswell when that first came out still one of the best trance tracks ever made
The first EDM track I specifically remember hearing was The Immortals - Techno Syndrome. I thought it was awesome but I never thought there was more music like this or took any action to look for it.
Ian Van Dahl - Castles In The Sky got me into epic trance (and indeed music) when I heard it on a TV ad for "Ray's House". It gave me goosebumps and all that, heh. I remembered the name of the album and bought it the first chance I had. I also bought DJ Dan's "In Stereo" because it said "DJ" and Keoki's "Ego-Trip" because the cover looked cool. Needless to say I learned to buy CD's named "State Of Trance" or "Trance Nation" before I found out which deejays played the epic trance that I wanted at the time.
Ironically, Ego-Trip and In Stereo are two of my favorite CD's now.
And that my friends is the Circle of Life. Go in peace, Kimba.

Agreed. The whole Tranceport album changed my outlook. It was my transition into EDM. I had listened to some Sash! and eurodance type stuff before, but never a dj mixed set. It opened my mind completely. Those two songs are definitely memorable, but so are Greece 2000 and Words (For Love) and Someone.

Kind of happened in three stages for me.
The first time was around 1992/93 when I first heard the likes of Gat Decor - Passion that was different to the usual "rave" music I'd been into, and then my all time favourite tune Humate - Love Stimulation. I actually picked this up on an old Reactivate album on cassette. Then I also had two other early compilations - Trance Europe Express and Logic Trance that had on it the likes of Cosmic Baby - Spacetrack and the original Cafe Del Mar.
By 1995/96 I'd discovered Oakey who was popularising Goa-trance at this time, and hence I got into this in a big way, buying pretty much everything on the Perfecto Fluoro label. Thanks to him I first discovered the likes of Astral Projection and Hallucinogen.
Then in the summer 1998 I first went to Gatecrasher to see Paul Van Dyk on my birthday. The rest is history...

The track that got me into dance was Toca's Miracle (I'm sure I'm not the only one, don't lie) and then from there to trance it was the Electrique Boutique Remix of Kristine Blond's Love Shy. When I heard that I was just like "OMG this is amazing, I want more!" Gamemaster was another early one for me too

For me I think it was via watching MTV's Dancefloor Chart that got me into it... when I heard songs like Chicane- Offshore, Robert Miles- Children, and Faithless- Insomnia, as well as BBE's "Seven Days and One Week" that certainly got my interest sparked. Musta been 1996/1997 time when this occurred...
