I had it and returned it.

I was first having noise problems becuase of grounding issues than I was have software problems than the thing would crash under heavy use.

better off just gettting a dual cd player if money is an issue.

if money isnt an issue get the CDJ1000 MKII

pvd plays the biggest clubs in the world with FS. I'm sure if the sound was that much of an issue he wouldn't use it.

I would not be so sure. The biggest problem is the phono throughs sound bad. It is not shielded very well and is highly sensitive to ground loops.

The actual philips audio chips which the ScratchAmp uses has a documented flaw (there is a note about it somewhere on philips' website). The problem is that is drops audio frames at times so even when playing through the line outputs (using FS) you can get audio artifacts. If you look closely at a recording you can actually see some parts where the audio stops for micro seconds. Some claim you don't notice this sort of thing on a huge club system (therefore pvd's sets sound fine). Also for the pvd sets, remember that he is only using FS, not the phono throughs which really do degrade the sound.

That said, I have FS and it works alright. I think that some ScratchAmps are more sensitve to these issues than others.

Thanx for all the info so far... It's been very helpful. I'm not worried about the phonos as I would only use it for computer mixing.

I have final scratch but would not reccomend it, The sereto one has a much better reputation although I havent tried that. I had to buy a sony laptop in order to get it working properly, it didnt work at all on my old laptop (when I say old it was still very high spec!) I still get problems getting it to work straight away and have to reboot at least once every time I use it. I would dare use it live its nowhere near reliable enough.

To be honest, I would avoid FS and all other programs like it, and instead get CD turntables.

If you want the feel of vinyl, then just buy records. The sound quality of the analogue record is better anyways.

If you still want a digital format, go with CD decks. Why? You can just do so much more with a nice CDJ than you can do with vinyl or a vinyl emulator. I know I use this example a lot, but just look at what James Zabiela does... these kinds of tricks are just impossible with an analogue record.

I just don't see any advantage FS and it's ilk have over a CD turntable. CD's are light, cheap and easy to burn, not to mention computers and their software are potentially unstable, theres sound quality issues with FS as mentioned above, etc. If you're going to use a digital format, use CDs.
