Monkey Dancer 2 Newbie Needs Help

Im 17 and want to get into mixing/producing. Got a couple of questions. First off it would be apreciated if someone could shed some light on the basic equipment names, brand that im gonna be needing to get started mixing. What tabels and such i should be useing, dont want to get anything thats not worth the money. Also im aware of the different programs out there for producing and was wondering which one is used by most producers. All feedback is greatly appreciated!!!

thanks.

hey. im 17 too. the most popular decks that i know of are the technics 1200s. well worth the money. i have numark, and they're nice, but not nearly as good. when it comes to mixers, i would say, you get what you pay for... i use gemini but there are much better onew out there.

as for producing, i use FLStuido

http://fruityloops.com/

i know a lot of professional producers use hardware, but software is used too. i like FLstudio the best cause its really user friendly IMO. there are tons of threads just like this, so use that search button and you will learn a lot of shit.

fl studio has nothing to do with studio work. its more like a game than a music production prog. the best is program is Reason
its hard to lean how to use is but when you do its easy and fun.
fl studio is easy to lean how to use but when you do its gonna be hard to make a good track.
technics sl1200mk2 is what you need and you can keep them as long as you want. they never fail and they are the best... all the others are just copies.
you dont need a good mixer for now just make sure its not a scretch mixer (if you are gonna play dance music)
make sure you buy good headphones (sony v700 id say) its prob your best friend when mixing. monitor speakers too.

also if you are serius about music production. you should get a midi keyboard. if you love it and have faith you can lean to play without help. like mixing its all about love and practice (to learn...)

hope that helps good luck!

its not true that FL is more like a game... somewhere in the production forum there are some lists of professional producers that use it. they are people we have all hear of, but i cant remember. look and you'll see for yourself.

because of its VST plugin support you can produce top quality tracks. you dont HAVE to use just the ones that come with the program. same with samples.

hahaha fruity loops....I hate fruity loops.

Reason 2.5 if your serious thats only software, I wont get into hardware since its big $$.

Hmm...Technics is the way to go, Ive seen them for 400$ These are for 1210 MKIIS i paid about 600$ for my M3Ds...

as far as mixers go...get a shitty mixer like a stanton or get the Vestax PCV series is the best cheap way to go to get clean sound

Later once you turn 18 go watch some DJs spin and things like that. Who knows maybe you'll be a resident DJ at a nightclub like me lol.

hey im 17 too lol looks like we got a party

first off, how serious are you about getting into this? how much money are you willing to dish out? becoming a dj is by no means cheap even if you go for low quality gear

ive found that the internet can be an aspiring dj's best friend as theres all sorts of sites that you can buy from which are more than likely out to offer the lowest price, there are web communities like this one that are packed with hardcore music lovers as well as just about any information you might need about anything you might wanna know

as far as decks go, you'll more than likely hear that technics is the best which they are and they've got the reputation to back it up, however there are other brands which are coming out with models which are superior to technics top decks as far as specifications and features go and have different looks

your best bet when shoping for any gear IMO is to do some research. yea technics have the crown but maybe you might like the features and looks of a stanton or vestax deck over the technics which just about everyone has

if you prefer to be different, take some time to see whats out there, if you want whats known to work all you have to do is ask here and you'll get all the answers you need guaranteed and there'll be a rhyme every time

www.musiciansfriend.com
www.pssl.com

both of those have good selections and prices, i like musiciansfriend b/c you can read reviews and ratings on products

definitely is nothing wrong with fruity loops. look at Icone(also a TA), he only uses fruity and he just had 2 or 3 tracks released. anyways.... another good program to look at for producing is Logic and most recently Ableton Live 4. I personally use logic and think its a very powerful program. haven't tried ableton yet, but a friend of mine says its very good as well. those are some other options you can look at.

Alot of former bedroom djs (I think its a fad) are shelling out their MK2's and selling them for cheap, I got 2 for 500. See if you can get them used because these things are solid as rocks. If you have cash to spend though...a M5G would always be nice
