>>> Categorization of Trance Sub-Genres

This is how I like the catogorize trance sub-genres... Remember these are my OWN groupings. It's all a little subjective and there are NO clear cut lines with all the millions of tracks and crossing of genres:

>> Progressive Trance = Everything from Deep Progressive Trance to most Epic/Uplifting (at least most of the well produced stuff).

>> Progressive House = Deeper, Slower with some House influences. People who are not too familiar with it often refer to this as "Slow Boring Trance".

NOTE: Lots of Progressive House and Deep Progressive Trance is quite similar, hence the term "Progressive" alone to describe the combination of the two genres.

>> Club Trance = cheezier club-oriented stuff (like DJ Jean and some Judge Jules). Some of the cheezier clubbier Epic/Uplifting falls into this category. Some also borders on Hard House. (Voodoo & Serano - Blood Is Pumpin', South Side Spinners - Luvstruck, etc.)

>> Tech-Trance = Techno influenced Trance, based on loops of repeating samples (ie. similar to Techno, but with more trancey elements).

>> Psychedelic Trance (Goa Trance) = Usually hard, fast, busy and complicated. But it doesn't have to be. Minimal Psy Trance/Techno is often slower, more subtle; kinda like the "Progressive" of Goa/Psy Trance. {HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! see http://www.psynews.org ~ http://www.philosomatika.net }

>> Freeform/Trancecore = Hardcore Trance (Trance at 180 bpm) {Also HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!}

>> NU-NRG/NRG/UK Hard House = most think of this and refer to it as Hard House, but much of it's SO trancey and trance influenced that I would classify most of it as a sub-genre of Trance rather than House.

>> Progressive Breaks Trance = Basically Trance to a breakbeat rhythm. Like Hybrid and General Midi.

... A few other less prominent/self-explanitory "trance" sub-genres include Hard Trance, Acid Trance, Tribal Trance, etc.

some of my music recommendations can be found at http://members.home.net/sauli/music.htm
altho it is quite out of date.

Do you think I've forgotten anything?
