Just got broadband!
From SpeakEasy.net. I downloaded over 55 GB in the two weeks that I had it so far (ADSL: 1.5 Mbps down, 256 kbps up)! Now seriously, what's your opinion on all this? I'm paying about 40 USD/month for the above. With thsi company, you can run servers and have unlimited amounts of PCs running off the DSL connection (I think). Especially capped people, respond: What do you think about someone taking in ~100 GB per month (next to _constantly_ downloading @ full speed 24-7)? Do you wish that you had it? Do you dislike it because I'm paying a little for a lot? Do you think it's fair to have unlimited bandwidth like this? Do you think it wouldn't be fair for someone like me to do this, say, all year? If so, explain why, since I'm paying for it (they don't care how much u DL or UL per month). Not to mention that I uploaded about a 5th of that 55 GB number I shown above.

you have to realize that when you have more than one PC running from the 1.5 mbt connection.... each is pulling from that. So if you had 2 d/ling at full speed... you would be geting 3/4 mbt a second.. and so on with any added computer. You have to realize that what you ahve isnt that great.... and users and d/l as much as they want a month. it is web hosting that capped... not browsing. Youve been here for a while... I would think you would understand this...

I don't have more than 1 PC, so that doesn't apply. I knew that when you have more than 1, connection get split for a while (about three years). But, coming from the 56K world after 3 years and being suddenly thrust into 1.5 Mbit is overwhelming in the beginning. I thought that cable users get DL/UL caps all the time, don't they? Also, I just did the maths and it turns out you can't download 55 GB in a 'few' days even at full speed; you can download only 48600 MB (= ~47.4609 GB) if it was truly running at the maximum speed for three (a few is three) days straight. I still see 55 GB in 2 weeks as impressive for someone who wouldn't usually get that in 6 _months_ over 56K.

Well to be accurate it would take 79 hours 22minutes and 20 seconds to download 55GB on full rate...

3Mbps down and 512kpbs up.. $45 CDN/month..
the reason you get unlimitied bandwidth is because DSL is a dedicated link to the backbone for you... Cable users don't always bet unlimitied bandwidth because they often share a very fast line to the backbone with many users (usually people in your same block/group of blocks). DSL sometimes gets slower speed than cable, but it's always constant. Cable sometimes gets better speeds than DSL, but the speed varies with the # of users accessing the network.
55gb over two weeks is nothing!! i could do that in like 2 days

king hell.
i was on NTL in my old place - £25 per month for 600k downstream. That's about USD $40
in my new place i'll be getting 512k downstream for a total of about £30 (BT phone line rental + adsl cost)
When i have broadband, there is no time when my PC is turned on, that i don't have something downloading...even if it's only at 10k/sec.
So, yours sounds good.

Damn... Belgium really sucks when it comes to internet providers.
I can download max 10GB/month ; upload max 1GB/month... if you get passed those figurs, you get a 'smallband' connection untill you're back in the 'green zone'. That means modem speeds for ya.
