Well, it is a pretty good idea.

But after a while I think people will know what lables provide nice pieces of vinyl and sleeves. I mean, I've been buying vinyl for almost 4 years now, and I definately know what labels to avoid because they have crappy quality vinyls.

Anyway, the idea itself is not bad, it just depends on how much people want (and need) it I guess.

I think Liquid Asset has very nice ones. Design is nice and easy to use. Quality is A class on both, vinyls and sleeves.

i honestly don't care if a label releases with or without inner sleeves, on thin vinyl or what. i dont even care if it has an outer sleeve, just the inner sleeve will do for me (many promos come like this anyway). its the tunage content that matters to me!

I totally agree with you that the tunes are the most important thing on vinyl. But when I order a good tune and it is in shitty package, it is just poor. Thats why I would like to make this list. When the tune is released on 2 or more labels, I would like to choose better, I think 1 or 2 dollars for more durable vinyl and better package isnt so much...

Don't think it really matters too much, I hate thin records but if a tune is only released on a label that puts out these crap thin vinyls theres not much you can do, it would never stop me buying them anyway, if the tune rocks i'm gonna buy it thin or thick.

The only thing that pisses me off is the thin ones are prone to warp unlike the slabs (as me and my mate call them), you say that I-DT put out thicker vinyl, this is true with the silver sleeved ones but I have noiced recently that alot of the newer ones (white sleeved) are a bit thinner.

Also sleeves and inner sleeves can be bought for dirt cheap in bulk, so if the original ones suck just go out and buy some youself do a bit of artwork and the jobs a good un.

I have to disagree about Nebula and Liquid Asset. I find Nebula to have pretty thick pressings which are harder to warp(although I agree that an inner sleeve would be nice). Also, my copy of Gamemaster(the recent remixes one) on Liquid Asset warped very quickly after I got it because the vinyl was thin. The sleeve, however, is pretty high quality so I'll give them credit for that.

Well i found with a lot of my Trance records and such, the cases are shit... but with my Breaks almost all of them came in great cases, and the records in just the inner sleeve are my Promo's i get sent to me...

but i have a bit of a collection of Nebula records... the vinyl is nice and thick (though i have thicker) but the case is just so thin and most of them are spliting on the sides...

I have to say that this is an interesting idea but to be honest not sure it fills any function.

Some labels definately press higher quality than others but on the whole it's about the tunes and not the pressing. Only time a get a little hacked off is if I get dubplates. As for the actual cover, the only thing I find useful with it sometimes is if it's got a bright colour or something that helps me find it in the box when it's dark in the club. Other than that don't get too much time to think about packaging.

Had some ropey vinyls from Magik Muzik.

Cheers
Nem
