Arr, I've ran into the same problem multiple times.
On the one hand, if you stay up, you may not do such a good job, if you're tired. Some people aren't affected by it though.
If you wake up early to do it; well, you'll probably be more refreshed. But, if you underestimated how long the work took you to do, ... well you're screwed. ^^

Actually, from many tests that Psychologists have done proven that if you study BEFORE you fall asleep, that you'll get more out of it. See, when you fall asleep, you brain goes over what you've just done in your head, so when your fall asleep after studying, you're actually STUDYING while you sleep, whereas in the morning, you're stressed out and trying to study real fast, nothing is absorbed and you actually end up forgetting things much easier. But that's just tested Psychological theories, you don't have to listen to those, you can listen to the losers on TA instead.
