the electrons in metals are free, as to say the nuclei of metals are bondended in a sea of elctrons rather than normal elements who have their own electrons in orbit aroudn them. this is why metal has such malleable and bendy properties.
the electromagnetic waves in microwaves work by making water molecules flip over, in otherword giving them more energy which creates the heat. in metal it gives the electrons more energy, but so much that they generate an electric charge and burst out in huge bolt if given too much energy.
