Accept it anyways, it won't have to be SUPER quiet, you'd be suprised how much walls can absorb(you're not trying to tear up a dancefloor, you're just playing some background music so its fine. Mix in the headphones if it becomes a problem. And it's true, people do love to watch people mix, no matter what your skill level is, it looks cool. It's also a good experience to mix under pressure. (You'll be under pressure just because people are listening, not that they'll know if you're doing well or not). Worst case scenario, you mix for a little and decide its not working, you can stop for a little and let them play around with your equipment if you want, or just chill with them and leave your equipment alone, etc.
