Crap mainstream music: blame Bush?
OK I didn't write this, someone posted it at another forum. I don't know if it's true or not but it's an interesting read. So does this guy have a point or is he full of shite?
| quote: | Well there go my hopes of a rejuvenated mainstream musical industry. Had Kerry won, MAYBE pop culture would have reverted back to normal by 2006, but kiss that goodbye. When the economy fell, Bush's solution to dealing with this was to give tax breaks and benefits to the biggest corporations(aka his "buddies"), and the music and film industries have suffered because of this. As a result, the little guys of the business have been chewed out almost completely. The four major record labels have since bought out just about all of the smaller labels that used to have a hold on the market, and have you ever heard "this is a message brought to you by the people at Clear Channel Corp." while listening to the radio? Well guess what, Clear Channel is a company that bought out 9 out of every 10 major radio stations accross the country, and they give every single station a predetermined play list so that they're all identical and dictated to the point in which Clear Channel has the ability to promote and play what they want to. This is why we have nothing but overprocessed and generic crap to listen to on every style of radio station, excluding independent and college stations. And Bush made it all possible.
Had John Kerry won, his pro-middle class/anti-corporation approach would have eventually settled in and forced huge monopolies, like Clear Channel for example, to break up into smaller affiliated companies or even to break up completely. We could have had a potential return to the media format of the 90s....but no, Bush is back and ready to set us back even further with his greedy ways. It'll more than likely take another 8 years for Bush's damage to the music industry to be reversed, possibly longer considering what the next president may do. Same goes for the motion picture industry. If you don't believe me, then ask yourselves this. When you check the movie listings, do you not only see A)Action movies(Arnold fights the Aliens), B)Teen movies(some girl tries to win prom queen), C)Some romance story(J-LO tries to get her 20th husband back) or D)Computer animated cartoons(Finding Nemo, Shark Tale, what's next.....finding Nemo's Pet Shark?)? When you listen to the radio or turn on the tv, do you not see A)angsty "rockers" in their late 20s/early 30s singing about high school and how much "life sucks", B)talentless drivel-filled teen idols that all sound and perform the same, C)rap and country artists that have ABSOLUTELY NO CONTRIBUTION TO THE BETTERMENT OF THE HUMAN RACE, and finally D) Craptastic "throwback" "rock" that tries to CREATE MUSIC'S FUTURE by USING THE PAST....ugggghhhhh......???? If you answered yes, which you have to, then you've been a victim of how the corporate world deprives us of any change and sticks to successful stereotypes. There is no opportunity for the creative and talented members of these industries, at least not in Bush's society. Let this be a lesson, come 2008.......vote, and vote for the right candidate. |
