2 Mixers 1 Deck

Since that i am a Breaks DJ, i do a lot of scratching and stuff and i recently perfected the crab scratch. however the mixer im using at the moment is a Vestax PCV-275, and whilst the fader is so smooth i can blow it across, 1. it has no curve setting, and 2. its too nicer mixer to treat the x-fader so roughly no matter how long vestax says it lasts.

so my answer to this problem, is investing in a seperate scratch mixer. im looking at the technics shdx1200 mixer (the one they use in the DMC world finals)

is there anyway i could connect a deck to 2 mixers, as im sure i have seen a picture somewhere that this is possible, even though technics decks only have one pair of phono inputs.

what do you advise?

you can get a phono splitting connecter, 1 female > 2 female RCA.

have a look at www.cybermarket.co.uk, they have them in. they are only about £1.50 or so, i have a few of them.

I use piggyback RCA connectors for something similar, you can get them at radioshack.

If I'm understanding it correctly, you should be able to do this using the effect loop function on your 275. I'm not sitting in front of it now, and it's hard for me to visualize, but I think if you do it this way it will work:

Connect your tables normally to your 275. Using the loop function, send the signals to your scratch mixer. Whenever you want to scratch, turn on the effects loop and it should send the signal to your scratch mixer to process, then route it back into your 275.

Im sure their is a mixer that could have the adjustable crossfader curve and also be ok for normal mixing that will suite your needs instead of having 2 mixers

I'm in a similar situation, trying to figure out alternatives to the 275 that could allow for some scratching opportunities. The only problem is that the PCV-275 is considered the best in its class and would be ideal except for the non-adjustable curve. A few others I've seen that could be viewed as alternatives with curve control are the Numark Matrix 3 and the Ecler SMAC Pro 30. The PCV-275 still beats these(from what I know about them) except for the lack of curve adjustment. I really need to get a new mixer as well, my Numark DM-1002MKII's x-fader is basically useless, and I'd rather upgrade to a new mixer than just buy a new x-fader for a crappy mixer.

Run the line out of the scratch mixer to the line in of the Vestax. You just have to make sure both mixers are set to the right channels/volume.

true, but it worked fine for me at home

then i got another deck and ran out of phono channels. i got a nice little phono preamp to solve this and had the y connectors coming out of that, works great.
