Mixing Songs (Quick Question)

I've been making a few mixes for friends recently with DSS DJ, nothing official or anything, and I've not been doing too badly.

Anyway, most songs are cookie cutter with this program because it reads bpm for you, and will sync the songs (unless it misreads the bpm, which it does sometimes, but I won't get into that).

My issue is this; when I want to mix in a song like The Sky was Pink, or Breathe (Telepopmusik), it just starts off with pretty much white noise. There is a bit of a beat later in, but if I wanted to start at the beginning, mixing from a song that had a beat, what would you recommend? Waiting until the last song trails off into just the backbeat, and then fading in the beginning of the next song? That seems sort of amateur (though it wouldn't be the first thing).

-Thoughts, tips, all appreciated.

first of all (even though you dont want to get into it) ditch the auto beatmatching and use your head

on topic, try starting it from the very beginning of the track once you have beatmatched it, and mix it. usually, even if it sounds like it isn't, so long as there is a defining start (i.e. not a fade) it will usually be in time.

if there is a fade in at the start, or it simply isnt phrase matched at all, your best bet is to cue it at the first beat and mix from there. if you have your heart set on playing the intro, get it cued in from the start and fade out the other track well before the kick starts. if you leave it too late it will sound shite, you need the listener to lose track of the tempo if you are going to do it like that

yea if you hear any resemblence of a drum kick or something at teh very start, chances are it will be kept in time.

but if there isn't try puting on some effects on the current track and fade it out.
