Invisible Grin First Recorded Mix, would love feedback ...

Hey there, Just started recording myself last week, I've been dj'ing for almost 2 years. 1st year it was more of a hobby, but the within the last year, I've really put time and effort into it. There are mistakes in the mix, but I figured might as well get out there and do this, it'll be a good experience. Here's a mix I made, and I'd love some feedback from anyone. Whether good or bad, doesn't matter. The recording is not so great, but mind you I just started using this software last week, so I'm still learning. Enjoy the set, and thanks in advance for your input.

Here's the tracklist:

1. Holden & Thompson – Nothing (93 returning mix)
2. Infusion – Girls Can Be Cruel (Infusion s’Qed mix)
3. New Order – Blue Monday (Rogue Audio mix)
4. Sam Sharp – Deep
5. Randy Katana – In Silence (Txitxarro mix)
6. Age of Love – Age of Love (Marco V remix)
7. Lotstep – Burma (Sasha Remix)
8. Jas Van Houten – Heavens Gate
9. Mojado – El Toro
10. Marcel Woods – Static State
11. Marcel Woods – Time is Running Out (Original Mix)
12. Tiesto – Traffic
13. D:fuse – Bodyshock (Threw this is at the last moment for a friend, that’s why the mixing is off)

Songs I like from the tracklist

1. Holden & Thompson – Nothing (93 returning mix)
3. New Order – Blue Monday (Rogue Audio mix)
5. Randy Katana – In Silence (Txitxarro mix)
7. Lotstep – Burma (Sasha Remix)
9. Mojado – El Toro

Not very fond of the other songs. Just my taste.

BTW how much of this mix was edited using sound forge

I'll give you some better feedback.

1. Holden & Thompson – Nothing (93 returning mix)
* Good song. Good for opening a set. But I personally wouldn’t use it for an opener because Ferry canned this tune in 03. I think he used song to open his live in L.A. cd.

2. Infusion – Girls Can Be Cruel (Infusion s’Qed mix)
Good song.

3. New Order – Blue Monday (Rogue Audio mix)
I love New Order. This was cool. Gotta love retro stuff.
4. Sam Sharp – Deep

* Not fond of the Sam Sharp sound.

5. Randy Katana – In Silence (Txitxarro mix)

I love this song. Classic. Good transition from 4 to 5.

6. Age of Love – Age of Love (Marco V remix)
* don't like it. Wouldn't play it.

7. Lotstep – Burma (Sasha Remix)
* This track shouldn't be played two songs after In Silence. Your building energy and this just killed it. Good song but should be moved towards the start of the set not he middle.

8. Jas Van Houten – Heavens Gate
* The breakdown is cool. But the rest of the song just doesn’t go anywhere.

9. Mojado – El Toro
* Good Song. I like it a lot.

10. Marcel Woods – Static State
* I see that you were trying to go a bit techno after El Toro but I think you sound have picked something a bit more dirty and hard after El Toro.

11. Marcel Woods – Time is Running Out (Original Mix)
* This is an ok track.

12. Tiesto – Traffic
* This track should only be played in a club for special occasions not in a demo cd. Too anthemic and not the 'WOW' factor you need for a mix demo.

13. D:fuse – Bodyshock (Threw this is at the last moment for a friend, that’s why the mixing is off)

*Tell you friend to stop bothering you when you mix. This ruined the flow.

Overall the flow was good exepct for that blimp with Lostep and the last track.

Mixing was good expect for that last fuck up.

I look forward to hearing more of your stuff.

One last thing.

I know you like PVD but be careful you don't sound to much like him. If more than 70% of your tracklist is similar to a PVD tracklist than re-do it.

Trust me I know how shitty it is to get unconstructive criticism. I hopefully gave you a few pointers that will help you out in your next mix.

Just remember me when you get big and those gigs in NYC start poping up I can open for you

Haha, I'm not laughing at you PvD Fanatic, as I have not yet even listened to your mix and you said you didn't edit anything after mixing, I just think it's funny that I used to edit in Sound Forge like mad when I first started mixing, and apparently it's almost standard practice for bedroom DJs.

I'll listen to your mix this weekend, as I can't download things at work, but looking forward to it. Nothing (93 Returning Mix) is a fantastic track!
