Working with Cubase folks when on Logic.

Guys,

I run off a Mac. I'm planning on getting Logic 7. All my friends use Cubase SX on PC's. How difficult is it to interoperate with them if I'm using Logic 7 on a mac?

For those users who have tried Logic I want your feedback. Am I nuts to use Logic instead of Cubase? Am I interested in hearing anyone who would tell me to go with Cubase and why. Right now, it seems Logic is a better sequencer.

Thanks!

Logic is the proffesional studio solution, while Cubase is mostly Home Studio solution...

I myself, Im a Cubase SX user... but I dont see any reason for u not to use Logic... Logic is a fucking great program... and so is Cubase...

if i had a mac i would be using Logic.

unless you get into fine fine FINE detail, there isn't really that much that Cubase can't do in comparison to Logic. for the most part, you'll be able to do the same things it just might be a different way of doing it. so as long as you know what you want to do, and the Cubase users know how to do it then it'll be all good.

Thanks for your input guys. What about being able to work with Cubase SX users when I'm on Logic. Is this possible or very hard?

Possible and not too hard. Just send samples and midi files, that's about all you need, unless you wanted your friends to tweak one of Logic's built-in synths on their comps, in which case they couldn't. But you could always bounce audio synthesized from Logic's built-in synths.

If you have recorded audio in your session and you want to share with one of your buddies that has cubase, you can export the session as an OMF package. It basically packs all your session data together for sharing between applications. Plug-ins will have to be printed obviously, unless you provide plugin settings savefiles...

...maybe that's a little too complicated.

Logic os totaly modular in a sense...it has the ability to be set up just the way your set is, or your hardware set up is. From what I remeber you can can do a lot of pacthing and routing like using a HD patchbay..pretty cool stuff, and even cooler if your working with a HD patchbay. I might just try out a demo if there is one.

Logic 7, overall, is wonderful. The included plug-ins are mostly great ES2 is indispensable, my most used synth. Space Designer reverb is killer. The dynamics plugins are decent, but I use my Powercore and T-racks plug-ins for most mastering work.

As someone suggested, the environment is a cool way to set up your computer studio in a modular fashion....hard to explain, but once you play with it you'll love the customizability.

The biggest drawback, and its significant, is the lack of full PDC (plugin delay compensation). Delay compensation is performed for Audio Instrument tracks, and for Insert FX (for etierh Audio Units or Logic plugs). However, anything else, such as Audio recordings and Send busses, are NOT automatically compensated, so you have to do this manually which sometimes can be a real pain.

You'll be pleased with Logic though...
