What is your favorite of the Access Virus family?

I personally have only messed with a Classic and an Indigo II, and the Indigo is it for me.

My is the C + tc powercore version. Running both lets me have best of both worlds. I can use the hardware C to control every function of the VST virus, and the other way around, when i don't feel like twisting knobs, or I am just to lazy to look for some parameter that isn't so easyly accessible thrue the front buttons or knobs on the c it's really easy to find in the VSt version.. It's really simmilar to what access is introducing with the new Ti line.. VST control for your hardware unit and other way around..

you cant really compare the virus classic to the indigo II because the classic is a virus b and the indigo II is based on the virus c engine, which has amongst other things over the virus b, higher poly, an effects section on the control surface, modulation stuff on the control surface, a 3 band EQ, an emulated moog filter and with the indigo, a keyboard aswell.

the virus c is logically better than the virus b. its essentially the same thing with extras. i bought a virus b though because they were far cheaper than virus c's and indigos and in terms of bang for buck, you dont get so many extras on a virus c that justify spending twice the money you need for a equivilent virus b on ebay.

I've owned all but TC version of Virus. Virus kC has been my favorite, ever since I picked it up. Prior to that, I had "A", "kB" and "B" and rack. I currently own Indigo Redback and waiting for TI keyboard to arrive some time soon. will keep you posted if it wins me over!



edit: prior to kC, I'd say my favorite was "A" - silly fun and quite distinct from "B". Either way, you can't go wrong with any of the Virus variants.

i would say the TI because of his "total integration", hypersaw and maany voices hope it'll be shipped soon..

but all those virus synths are very similiar.. there's almost nothing groundbreaking between the A, B and C

the main difference between virus a to c is that on the c you can have more multimode patches using unison and you can strike *massive* chords whereas its you have to be a little more careful on virus b and alot more careful on virus a when doing stuff like that in multimode. it just eats polyphony.

right.. but multimode with globalfx is almost unusable. so i don't care about that.. i don't use the multimode and so do the most producers.
it will be interestng with the TI...

I would say the TI, but it's ungodly expensive. I currently don't own a virus anymore (used to have a Virus Rack Classic and TC Powercore Virus-both the same as a B)..

In a year or so I am going to consider getting a KC.. by then I'll be able to get one for about $1000 vs. 2000 for a TI (not worth it)

uhhh you are joking right? multimode is like the only way to get the most out of the virus. whats the point in having 16 part multitimbrality if you dont layer patches? even the manual says it.

id hardly say theres a unique difference between a virus b and a virus c. for most purposes they sound identical. the c will always be better than the b engine because its the same + some a few extra features. a virus indigo II is cosmetically almost identical to the indigo I. they dont sound that much different either. so what are you gonna say? my favourite virus is an indigo II. i like the way the 2 is printed. also, i think cream/white is a better colour than black. but i think black is better than crimson. hence my justification for best virus. there aint much more than that between them.

no, when i said unusable then it's this way for me and many others.

but to go more in depth.. you are able to play 16 different patches with the virus. but you have only 3 outputs. fact is you need to route more than 1 part through one output. now, how do you want to process single parts with individual compressor, reverb, delay, enhancer, exciter, .... you see the point?

and on the other hand you're limited with the polyphonie, how could you play 16 channels with 24 voices? i even can't play a pad like i want with 24 voices so how should i play the other 15 channels?

and yes there are fx on the virus. but if you use a delay, you'll hear it on every channel. unusable if you have some lead sounds with heavy delay and want to have a clean bassline in another channel..

so with the TI it looks a bit different. 80 voices and the FXs are different for every channel..

when i posted that thing about multi mode i only had the virus for a couple of days and was going through the manual. ive since been playing around with it and pretty much come to a similar conclusion to you. multi mode is severely flawed and clumsy and unneccessarily annoying to use.

although i have sent 4 or 5 parts into fruity's mixer and had them running simultaneously with VST effects/compressors/EQs etc on them on 1 stereo output of the virus. i do find it gets glitchy the more parts you play together (my virus doesnt MIDI sync very well sometimes and with lots of parts playing it plays the notes like its drunk!)

The Ti only has 2 (stereo) audio outs i think, although you can have dedicated reverb/delay on each multi part and the 80 poly limit means you can be a bit more wreckless with unison and not have to keep such a strict count of the number of voices you are burning.

also, my intention with multi mode was not to get the virus to play all parts of my song in realtime. my intention was to layer several lead lines together to make 1 bigger, fatter more evil lead line! then id start another multimode project and make a fat bass out of several single bass patches. in the same way i used to just add more vanguards, adjust the levels and filter one or more of them + alter EQ to get it to sound like 1 timbre with qualities of both patches.

but you are right about multi being practically unusable even for this. its clumsy. you have to manually edit all single patches then go back into multi mode. patches saved in single mode sometimes sound obviously different in multimode even when you disable all global effects in multi. its annoying. not at all what i thought it would have been and not what it should have been tbh
