Hi,

Ive been dj'ing house and funky house now for a long long time.

But ive only recently got into producing funky and house in the past 2 years. I'm a trance and Progressive and tech house producer.

Does anyone have any ideas / tips on how to get that really class bendy bassline, like eric prydz, slammin choon, and all his other top choons? Also like stonebridge - put em high. and all the full intention stuff. I know it cant be soft synths doing this. I belive its a real bass player. of fretless bass, fingered bass etc. And using vibrato, maybe modulation. But i still cant get that wabble on the end of some notes. I can get some good funky basslines going in my tracks, using Trilogy, and other machines. But most of my outboard gear is used for trance sounds and progressive tracks.

Any info would be welcome guys!!

Ok I don't know those artisting in particular, but basslines are easily achieved. To make them bendy, all you do is adjust the attack, delay, sustain and release accordingly. I find particular instruments more suited for the task of basslines myself, my nord lead 3 is very good at it. You want to pick a VA or Analog type sound engine not FM, I find that triangle waves work wonders for bass, I am looking at some presets and sounds I made, all triangle for bass hum. You can use square waves as well to make bass, but they are more harsh and less round I find.

start with a complete sub bass signal "apply effect to make it plastic to liquid either your choice"

do not use a key step sequence "1 key press start to finish "hold the same sub signal" now this flat signal you bend the signal compressing (higer note) the wave length and expanding to lower note, use voltage range at peaks "and invert X and Y this help the wow sound natural, this will probley sound like a pukka DNB bass at this time, just eq/filter the res generated from X+Y and expanding, you should have a tight throbbing bouncy bass, but you need to trigger areas you want eqs to work and bypass till the next segment, it will help you loads if you know how to use an old fm synth, as playing is just shifting ranges rather than note pressing, "signal is generated from moment you switch on,"

plastic, (warp borthers, worp worp style sound) is more mid range bass, tech step dnb uses it frequently also electro-tec, bass removed so the kick is most forward bass,

liquid, has min distorts and is pure sub ( vibrates you windows even at low volume ) its more flowing / more liquid like and tight.

i guess they are a private terms of explaing basses " sorry

instead of using key's

easy way to look at it " 1 flat bass signal ---------- with envlope/lfo slopes to define keys or pitch slopes also work well,,

once you have your main bass sequences then use the AD-(SR)<-- so you can stop basses for your fallout section's otherwise you will have the sub still holding through these areas.

now apply your effects so you know the exact areas they will trigger/drive in and out.
