Well, I trust them approximately as much as I trust the Bush Government after the notorious WMD hoax (and that is not much).

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but the EU naturally had more influence over Iran since they are Iran's biggest trading partner ... particularly with several nuclear reactors the French and Russians have been slated for construction aid. The US has had a trade embargo in place for decades. Therefore, any influence over Iran would naturally come from the EU, the only influence the US could use would be the threat of force ...

But still, good job by the big three.

I am skeptical about the timing of all this: It looks like a game to avoid the IAEA board meeting and a frim decision coming through.

With Iran expressing good will and less than a week before the board-meeting, the board will have a hard time making a decision that is negative against Iraq.

The best course of action would be to delay the IAEA meeting until enough data can be assessed and analyized to genuinely conclude on the interests of Iran.

As for the EU:

The Iran situation holds paradoxes because in this case the EU holds the stick while the US holds the carrot, yet both powers are reluctant to use their 'tools' because tradtionaly it is reveresed (the US holding the stick, EU holding the carrot).

The carrot in this case is economic improvement - only the US with evaporation of thier sancations can promise this. The US though is obviously reluctant to play this card after its diplomats got their asses handed back to them by North Korea.

The EU on the other hand holds the stick - the levy of sanctions against Iran. Of course the EU, being a traditional pussy-state has no desire to do this (and they really don't need to). But the threat of EU sanctions should be enough to get Iran to do what it needs.

I don't know the specifics about this diplomatic arrangement done between Iran and the big three. I do know however that had Iran not played this card and the IAEA would have met one week from now without any commitment from Iran to stop the nuclear problem they would have ruled negatively on it with a recommendation to the UN to vote on sactions verse Iran. Had such a proposal come to the UN there is a very good chance international sanctions would have been levied against Iran. And this is Iran's (aside from war) worst case scenario.

Afterall, internatlly the mullahs have potrayed the nuclear plan as brining benifit (especially economic in cheap power) to the Iranian people. But when you throw billions of dollars into nuclear research instead of social programs and the whole world decideds to cut you off from normal economic relations the good it does to your society should be re-examined.

Well we are Israel's biggest trading partner but we have sod all influence over them! And we do use sanctions sometimes (altho we are opposed in principle to using them as a tool of foreign policy) and the Parliament even voted for sanctions against Israel but was vetoed by the Commission or the Council so Yoepus, you are a very lucky little boy!!!
