CD-RW Question

Okay, to everyone who knows anything about computers....
Is there any free programs out there that let me use my CD-RW drive like a Hard Drive? What I mean is....
I am looking for something that lets me open an Excel document from the CD-RW, alter it and then use the Excel save button and it automatically overwrites the file on the CD-RW with the new updated one (mimicking a hard drive)

yeah ur basically looking for packet writing software...treats the Cd drive like a hard disk, rather than needing lead in and lead outs (ie, doesn't need mastering software)

from my experience packet writing software isn't very good at being compatible - you'll be doing well if a CD you write is readble on your own computer 6 months down the line, let alone a different system...and if you're changing operating systems, god 'elp ya

CD's are best for archiving and transferring large files, not for general everyday use like that.

be better off getting a zip drive if you want to RW files here there and everywhere

you might be better off getting a flash drive.

Cheap and reliable. And works anywhere as long as you have access to a usb port.

how reliable is a zip disk? I am tired of storing everything on 3.5" floppys because they crash on me continuously and I can't keep anything on my HD because these are business related files. Do ZIP disks have problems a lot with errors?

UDF Format. Go search how to do it on Internet. Creates a CD-RW which acts like a big damn floppy. Would not adivse much time and investment in doing so though, since it's old technology. I used to format CD-RWs like that myself in the past, but now with Jump Drives, what's the point. I can load 512mb rewritable all day long on a little stick for under $30 and it seems to last like forever (haven't had one fail yet). Faster and more convenient, just stick it in your pocket, on a keychain, etc.
